Yes use their guitars, as it's one of the most important part in their tone (guitar - amp interaction) .

I've been profiling like a mad man for the last two weeks on 4 types of guitars and figured out that - given a single tone - I needed to profile 4 times since the sweet spots on the amp where not exactly the same.

Please note in the comments/tags which type of guitar was used at profiling and the type of pickups used.

Welcome, I got a a pair of HS7 , they are great on the high and mid range, lack a lil bit of bottom, but the HS8 will do it. Don't forget to eq the output in the master section of the KPA.

Wow amazing work from you MB :o

I'll give a try to these, I'm not really surprised you got such a better tone. I guess there is a kind of 'resampling' done on the KPA while profiling low resolution gear like a pod, resulting in a much better tone than the original box (maybe the KPA will match the profiled gear to an internal high resolution sim ??). Adding the IR or a really good cab does also much better than any cab sim, for sure.

Well that must have been lots of work, thanks a lot for your efforts.

Welcome here, we all love our KPA , and for lots of good reasons ; I'll cite 2 :

    • getting a cranked 130 Db JCM800 tone on a 5w speaker and don't feel a single difference on the recording
    • having much more tweaking options than your original amp and going much further than reality on lots of original parameters (like the gain)

Hello, I'm on a little commercial web project , and I'm looking for mid res glowing tube porn (close ups) pics . Orange and blue colors highly appreciated.

If anyone here got some cool pics he took himself, I'm interested in either using creative commons pics with credits or buying one or 2 pics (at least 200 dpi )

I already googled that, but only fount some restricted rights or commercial pics.

There is a strong emphasis on the mids, I was playing with some driven profiles yesterday evening and came across a very similar tone while boosting the mids of the stack; so crank the mids up ! It might have been done at mixing stage on this recording.

cool stuff ! I hear a Les Paul in this one and a vintage marshall driven with a distortion box, it sounds a bit boxy a compressed , but what a dark and fat tone. Not that much gain , and maybe a rolled off tone pot on the LP. the right channel is more fuzzy. Regarding playing there is lots of Palm muting.

I agree with the concept, but only in a technical way , this is an engineering approach to me, far from the way I test new profiles : mainly on the feeling & the way the guitar interacts with it (dynamics, warmth, vol pot response, gain range ...).

Anyway that shouldn't be a major issue for profilers to give a DI sample.

The differences come from a great variety of factors, but mostly the guitars themselves and the players hands. There can even be huge differences betweens two similar guitars, woods , pickups all that matters a lot in the final tone. Don't expect a HSS with Emgs sound like a p90 telecaster ;)

I personally won't test a tone with a DI file, I'll just swap the guitar, or switch from HB to single coil on my main guitar's coil tap.

yeah the one by Hell-G are killer ones , also try them with the free cabs from M Wagener. What a badass amp :)

    • the one from Sinmix : SinMix JCM800KK FREE
    • the ones from HELL-G : JCM800 KerryKing RIB JCM800 KK (basically type KK in the RE search field)
    • one my mods from hellG ones : JCM800 KKing RIB_LP and the clip made out of it :

Hi, I think it's best to use the host's guitar since he probably tailored his tone starting from a specific guitar. Carrying a 'generic' guitar with splittable pickups would be nice just for testing purpose once the profiles are made (That Ibanez

I"ve not enough miking experience, but you should start profiling at home and know your mikes and their best usage regarding position , space , tones ... until you got a good practice with them.

Maybe wou'll need a little mixer to mike with several mikes at once & some monitoring headphones (+ obvious stuff like mike stands and xlr cables)

Good luck on your profiling journey and keep us informed, don't forget to get a camera and take some pics !

Ah sad story , it's time to write your own stuff mate !

I had the luck to hear the sample, perfectly interpreted, but it think it missed the philthy tone from the original recording, it was way too clean, it's hard to get such a dirty tone on the KPA.
