Jeff, am I hearing a little "power-amp hair" on that tone, or is it just me?

If so, and if you're "picky" to that end, you might find you have to dig around a little in order to recreate that bite.

I'm not really sure, MM. I don't know that my ears can detect power amp vs. preamp tonal additions once you through in different cabs or mics or mic angles, room ambience, etc...

Can you describe what you are hearing that would lend itself to being more power vs. pre? I believe he just used a Laney 2x12 with his Laney GH100L and an SM57 for this recording. Minus any "studio magic", that is.

Had one of these in the '90s, Jeff, and loved it. Killer rack, man; you shouldn't have any problems selling it I reckon.

    Good deal, Monkey Man!

For reference, this is the tune/tone I was referencing as wanting to have in my arsenal. :)

    Regs,

    Thanks, again, gang.

As for Paul profiling his amps, I thought he just did that with his more recent Marshall + pedals setup? I'm not a fan of how thin his tone is after he went away from Laney. The tone he got on "Viking Kong", in particular, is one of my "Holy Grail Of Tone" sounds.

Thanks, Rapidfire! Yeah, I'm sure I could get something close that I was happy with. I've already seen/heard so many amazing profiles from both normal user's and professional companies, so I'm excited. Unfortunately, I need to offload a bunch of old gear to finance my purchase (Triaxis, GSP-2101), so it may be awhile before I can make the jump to tonal nirvana. :(

    sambrox,

Thanks. I was trying to understand if people/companies typically profiled with a "every param set to the middle" approach to the EQ/Presence/Whatever so that you can tweak to taste or whatever, but it makes sense that this would be less than optimal. I appreciate the response.

    Hey gang,

I'm edging ever closer to purchasing a Kemper, but I have a fairly basic question I'm hoping you guys can help me out with. If I have the actual amp settings for a particular tone I am looking to emulate, for instance Paul Gilbert's Laney GH100L amp settings, and then I purchase a pack of Kemper profiles, say the ChopTones or JTM Profiles of the Laney GH100L, how would I mimic the actual amp settings once I call up a profile? Hopefully this is not a completely moronic question. Thanks for any help you can provide!
