So many options...
I like 3 way for my own style, I profile amps the same way I record them, minus the room/wall mics
I like a 414, up front, off center, about 4 inches from grill, (my starting point)
Pair that with a 57 slight offaxis on the cone. - or a TC30
Royer 121 with phase inverted always on rear. (if open back), if not I mostly convert most cabs to open back for recording purposes.
Or I also like a U87 or /67 For fender/vintage with a Reslo Ribbon mic on center
Depends what style. - Some amps just like 2 57's (V30's for example)
Im always changing, depends on the voice of the amp, and what works best. - but I always always start with the 414. (IMO) the best guitar mic there is.
But good mics are pointless with bad Mic Pre's and bad converters. - as is a bad treated room.
