I did expierience very similar effects in the last months ( 4 - 5 times) with fw 2.74 and predecessors.. I thought it could be a delay running wild (getting really loud) on muted sounds,. Since I often use a compressor upfront for clean and lowgain sounds the explanation Syre gave seems just about right. I won't rule out the delay though. I'm quite sure this is not a problem with merged rigs because I did not use them till now.

    Joachim

    Well honestly,

if there was a good magician and he allowed me just one kemper wish it wouldn't be a new green scream or a delay with n input points (nice though).

All I'd asked for was to instantly put a stop to these tedious, zero informative, thousands of words consuming, repeated efforts to compare sth. called fractal axe to the kpa. Down this road there's no truth to be found. It's mainly a matter of personal taste and financial means and since when is that the same for different persons? I will refrain from calling the whole affair fishy but I can understand very well why there's people out there who smell the reek and aks themselves wether they smell a rat.
    .
What I can't figure out: Why keep asking for advice, when all the stuff you so desperately wanted to know is ready and waiting in the internet?

    Well...

one could be tempted to take to the bottle!

Having tested FW 3.0 (former fw was 2.74) I will pass on the following statements:
update procedure: quick and without any problems
merged profiles: not really interested in them, so I skipped the issue
bugs: after copying a stomp preset to another stomp (ok) I tried to return to the main screen. The Kemper powered down and performed an instant startup procedure, much quicker than normally though. Nothing was lost, nothing was changed. Never expierenced this before.
questions: importing new rigs was quite tedious off late. Sometimes the Kemper tells me that there are no rigs to import. Well, I know better. Since I host less than 200 rigs in browser mode the reason for this strange behaviour surely is not to great a number of rigs.
rig Manager: did the update everything is fine. waiting for performance mode in rm.
as always: best sounding device I met in the last 50 years.
Thank you Kemper Team. You did a great job, as always.

PS: I also put these remarks in the thread "rig Manager related bugs". Sorry if this is causing any troubles.

...call me old fashioned. but find a bassman amp.. all is good :)

Exactly my experience. Just turn on a 61 or 59 Bassman profile (TAF provided some of those) with not too much gain (in my opinion 25% should do the job). It will sound very distinguished and it will be heard in the mix clearly. What more do I want?

    Joachim

I really did enjoy your Video. Thank you very much. Seems I have to take out my old battered Hamer Sunburst (1979) and some of TAFs old Fender profiles and give it a try. Listening to you makes this a worthwhile thing.
    Keep on rocking

    Joachim

I didn't have the same experience with the Stock rigs - I think there are many, many really good Stock rigs. But, I record many styles of music, and use guitars to suit the style and rig.

After having tried out many rigs (TAF, SOUNDSIDE, ROKPAK, PT) I totally agree. Even compared to the present higher standards after quite some KPA expierience I still like the rigs of KEMPER, FISCHER, WIENSTROER, J. NAVARRO, BALLANTINE, NASHVILLE STUDIO, N. CONNOR, HAYS, M. FRANZKOWIAK, U. BOSSERT, M. NERMARK, P. TURLEY and some other contributers I don't remember offhand. These were the "heroes" of my first steps with the KPA and some of them absolutely stunned me. Till now I'm a big fan of the Bassman 59 rigs done by J. Navarro.
True enough, some of them only deliver their hidden treasures with specific guitar types (GRETSCH, Strat, Tele, Paula, Epiphone Casino or the like. The only guitar that was hard to please with these first rigs was my time honoured Rick 360.

I'd like to thank all these guys for their wonderful contributions.

Do I need to mention that all of the above is just my humble opinion and no absolute truth..

Just open your ears and your heart and feel your fingers joy!

    'nuff said!

    Greetings

    Joachim

Several great all around full sounding bass profiles. Very controled, very ballsy, great sounding all around type of thing..
Having such a great sound, made me think a bit more about my bass line in a production I was working on a couple of days ago ... Brilliant !

    :) +1

I absolutely agree: All of them are very useful and. I tried them live (rehearsal) and as alternative recording tracks in existing multitrack recordings.

Since good bass profiles are bit hard to get I am especially thankful for the efforts of M. Wagener.

    Joachim

    Hi Andy,

good luck in "sunny norwich" and lots of sucessful jobs with the new studio. Maybe the new neighborhood (sheep, cows,...) will sharpen your ears for making even better profiles. I wonder if that is possible given the wonderful things you gave us so far! I am still enthusiatic about your Trainwreck profiles....

Hope you'll have a nice housewarming party and always a pint (in good nick) in your reach to drink on the whole kemper community.

    Best of luck

    Joachim

    Hi,

I'm feeling like entering an area marked as "unknown" on my map

I bought the Über-Pak and now am hearing my way through it. One of the reasons I wanted to have the lot was the excellent "clean" Splawn- profile that was on display (net) as a clean profile and was played with a Tele. I tried it and the other (not high gain) splawn profiles with different guitars (Tele, Start, Paula): They sound great too! The four "River" profiles really are ear honey. Try them with a Paula for Billy Gibbons earlier stuff. They blow you away. I agree: tons of high-gain profiles (I don't need them, though) but that was to be expected. Really nice are some of the crunchies (I worked my way (bottom down but started with the Splawn and the River): Egn. Rebel is definitely worth a try. I was really, really hot on BM, TWIN and Deluxe profiles. So far I'm at my wits end: I can not figure out how to tweak the profiles to let my strat (Am. Standard) sound like a strat. Maybe someone can tell me how the cookie will crumble. Many profiles I did check were rather strong on the treble-side of things. Not true for the Fender ("friend") stuff though. Maybe a bit of tweaking is in order. Or crank up the volume. Can't do that neighbors won't like it.

Thank you to M. Wagener and his team. This turns out to be lots of fun!

    Addition 1

Now, some hours of listening adventures further down the road: The aforementioned questions concerning Fender related profiles (and others) vanish into thin air if you turn up the volume. Till now I did not find anything I would not like. Even the high gain species is quite satisfying if you make wise use of the volume control of your guitar. All "gainy" profiles do clean-up very nicely giving you a wide range of new professinal sounds. As one very famous producer put it: "Play 'em loud!"

Mr. Wagener and his team really did a great Job and delivered a very priceworthy and welcome completion of all the 400 or so rigs already in my kpa. I won't part with a single rig from TAF,Soundside and many factory installed rigs I still do like a lot - especially after FW Revision 2.6.

I'm just happy with the set!

    Addition 2

It would have saved me some time and some questions if I had done from the start what I did now: Check Rig Manager and take a close look to the information there. It helps immediately if you know what guitar, what pickup etc. In my experience pick up types are not exclusive. Quite some of the SPLAWN-.profiles do Sound really marvellous over a single-coiled tele or strat. If you are expert enough - obviously I'm not - you my find all you need to know by just studying the assigned names of the profiles/rigs. 204 superb profiles are quite a bit to digest at once.

Only a few profiles still have to be examined, I'm nearly done. I want to repeat: Most of them are exeptionally good sounding combinations of amps, mics, cabinets, eqs and the very fine musical ear of M. Wagener. Those very few profiles aiming at metal like sounds are beyond me, I can't say wether they are good or simply overwhelming.

The set is worth every cent. :) :) :)

    Joachim

    Addition 3

PS: Check out the PT (Pete Turley) marked profiles. I liked them both with SC and HB equipped guitars.

PPS: So I'm not the only one with big question marks in my face when it comes to treble and clean (Fender-) sounds. M. Wagener explains it all a few pages on. :) :) :)

    Hi,

I very much enjoyed your nice playing. Took out my old Tele and started noodling at once. Really liked the sound of TAF Trainwreck Clean+ profile. Had to buy the lot at once. All Trainwreck profiles are excellent stuff. Even by Andy's high standard: outstanding! It gets one at least in the ball park. Since sound mostly is a matter of fingers and the one who moves them, I only can look up to your flawless performance . I'm very impressed!.

Thank you and keep on playing

    Joachim

    Hi there,

I do not know another (quality) product in this "keen on the next thrill" consumer society where the valued customer is treated with so much respect and a steady influx of new and welcome features. And all for nothing - well, after shelling out something to buy it. It is worth every cent and every penny.

My KPA developed the LDS (LED dying Syndrom) off late which may happen for KPAs of a special production run., No problem with that. Less lights but otherwise tons of excellent sounds that I still (18 month) don't get tired to listen to.

Only problem: What will I do in the time that is needed for the repair? I don't want to give it away!

By the way: I bought a 2009 Les Paul and playing mostly Fender stratocasters, telecasters and their Gretsch sisters I get the Impression that nearly all rigs sound good with Little Paula without further ado. Anybody out there with similar or different expieriences?

I'd like very much to thank the whole kemper community - forum members obvviously included - and especially C. Kemper for this kind of product and this matchless service. I'm totally kemperized!

    Joachim

    Tag,

    Joachim

    Hi there waraba,

just stumbled across this discussion. I always wondered how the superior sound of the vid could be reproduced. Some of it is room, volume, guitar and well done licks. Lots of rigs are being recommended in this discussion. I always liked a 59 Bassman rig of Johnny Navarro. With a little treble boosting (1st stomp), a little green scream (2nd stomp) and a compressor (4th stomp), power saggin to 3.0 and rolled of volume on a well aged strat with the neck pickup dialled in, one can come close.

    Good luck

    Joachim

    :) To whom it concerns...

Don't get me wrong I don't want to lecture anyone, I don't want to join the gear battle and I certainly don't want to judge someones musical tastes. But it seems to me that the variety of "great sounds" is by far more extended than I thought.

Well, well one should not argue about ones tastes. I myself, I'm definitely not into any metal stuff. Thus I don't know how metal stuff is done soundwise perfect. There are some ballads from Metallica I liked though. I don't know about axes and I have none to grind about sound devices. I'm very happy with my Kemper. It gives me everything I asked for soundwise.

Frankly I have some difficulties to acknowledge the guitar soundcheck in the vid's first seconds as great sounding. To me it sounds more like a synthesizer doing the job. So I gave it a second try and advanced to the soloing part that for a few seconds reminded me of one or two pieces of well done guitarplaying in 1960s popular music. But the sound? That's a guitar? Honestly?

Then again sound is just one aspect of a musical performance. I'm not so sure wether it's an important feature of musical quality. Substantial music will sound great on every equipment. But that's completely up to the auditorium. Or as a wise man/woman put it: Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. True enough! Clapton (Hendrix, Harrison,Ford,...) will sound like Clapton (...) on a cheap 50 $ thingy - something I can't hope to achieve. Hence the Kemper!

    Sincerely

    :) ;) :D

    Joachim

Thank you for reminding us that there is a world outside far away from being perfect as it is. I will miss him dearly. I looked out of the very window on Robben Island and sat on a stool in the yard prisoners were allowed to for some short time. They did not break him even though I could not imagine being imprisoned for 27 years and walk away as a free man in my mind.

He was one of a kind giving hope and freedom to so many people; he made the world a kinder place. Africa has always been the motherland of mankind. I hope his dream of fathering a new world will come true. But that is up to us.

    Sincerely

    Hi there,

I just downloaded Franz Plasa's Rigs and I really don't get the smile out my face! Especially the Fender Rigs and the Bluesbreaker is pure music. That's the sound! I'm not into the heavy gained stuff (can't tell them apart as it were) so I am very pleased to be offered outstanding clean sounds and exeptionally good crunchies! Some of them need a bit more volume imho. That can be done with a pure booster in the "after amp" section - really nice trick Mr. Plasa! - or a graphic default eq as done by andy44 with nothing tweaked but the volume up to taste.

Thank you Mr Plasa and thanks to C. Kemper for handing us down an early christmas present.

    J. Thomas

    Hallo, waraba,

I followed your recommendations and tried the c and the lp profiles of the jtm 30. I added - for the flavour - Zappledans CLEAN profiles (thank you very much, they sound really great and are very useable) of the amp and now I got a nice 5-some for performance no 83. All profiles sound full and warm with the Tele - no time to try the rest of the pack. The profiles with some gain clean off very quickly and give you a warm, crisp sound with rounded treble.

    I'm delighted

Thanks to you waraba and you zappledan

    Best regards

    Joachim

    Welcome on board Mike,

I'm using my (unpowered) Kemper for recording, rehearsals (connected to the pa mixer) and live gigs for nearly a year now. Always a pleasure to hear and to use it. As far as solo-boosting is concerned increasing the volume (except master volume) isn't so easily done. You may end up with red lights in the master section. Rigvolume shouldn't be increased either, if I read Mr Kemper correctly. What I do - maybe arkward - is:

    1. Use a pure boost in stomp slot one and a boss fs 5u foot switch to turn it on or off. You can direct the foot switch in the system menu. Easily done. You don't need to take away your hands off the guitar to switch it on or off. If you extend the boost most tube amps and thus the Kemper too, will start to overdrive. Most times a good thing for soloing. If your rig has a lot of gain in the first place this won't work. For the same reason an external device won't do the trick. You will only raise the gain level but not the over all volume.

    or

    2. Use a graphic eq in stomp slot 5 and only set a volume for not soloing. Or set one for solos and direct this slot to the switch. Ths will work just fine.

    3. A volumepedal is also a good thing to have for this kind of job.

    4. Two different rigs is well enough the best solution because you'll want to engage other stomps for soloing (esp. delay). In combination with a foot switch I really do recommend it.

    Best regards

    Joachim
