Mine has never done this in Performance Mode, and I've used the Remote for close to 500 gigs. I suggest contacting Support.

You could change the Default Kone Imprint while you audition these Profiles, and Save it only to the ones you decide to use.

The Profiler can do Dynamic Delay, and has Modulation capability within the Delay Module, as well as using a separate effects Slot before or after.
Since the 2290 is capable of many different sounds, I think it isn't possible to make recommendations without specific examples,
I suggest listening to all the Profiler Delay Effects Presets as a start, to get an idea of what it can do, and if any of them are good starting points for the sounds you are seeking.

Which Output do you use to send to your recording interface, and what is the Output Source Setting?
And, are you using Studio Profiles?

not quite sure why I would want to hear something different than the audience.
If you send the sound of a conventional amp through FOH with a microphone, the audience hears a different sound than you hear onstage. But, it is possible to use Kone to hear that sound, if you want to hear it.
Using the Profiler, you can send a Studio or Merged Profile to FOH, and use Kone with an Imprint onstage (if you don't want to hear the sound of the microphone in the Kone), or, you can use Kone in Full Range mode to hear the same sound you are sending to the PA.

Have you tried the volume control on your guitar?

If you are looking for 808 sounds, have you tried the Kemper Drive Presets?

Using it or not really comes down to personal preference.
When Kemper introduced Pure Cabinet, it became much easier to get musical feedback at gigs with my full range Yamaha DXR10.
But, no one has asked:
What kind of speaker are you using with your Profiler? If you are using a regular guitar cabinet or Kone/Kabinet, you may not need to use it, but, it really comes down to the sound you like.

I will definitely give a try to these JBL305, and probably do a A/B comparison with 8" ones before I make a decision.
A/B comparisons are definitely the best way to compare speakers. Take some music with you that know very well.

go from clean to crunch just using the guitar volume but I was using automation in my DAW to regulate consistent volumes for both during the change
Try using Morph:
1) Start with a crunch rig. Note the Gain Amount and Rig Volume amount.
2) Reduce the gain, and turn up the Rig Volume to offset the difference.
3) Store The Rig.
4) Engage Morph, by using an expression pedal or a second press of the Rig Switch.
5) Set the Morph Gain and Rig Volume to the original crunch rig values.
6) Confirm that the clean and crunch are the same value, and make any needed adjustments.
7) Store the Rig again.
When you access the Rig, it will be clean. Morphing the Rig will turn it into a crunch rig at the same volume.

Depending on your style of tapping, Rigs with more gain may generally have a natural compression that make tapping easier. But, if your style of tapping also includes cleaner Rigs, increasing the amount of attack in the Rigs, by adjusting treble and presence, and/or Definition ( in the Amp Menu) may make the Rigs more effective for your style of tapping.

what is your way of using your KP with couple different guitars?
My gig guitars have similar enough output levels that I can use most of the same rigs for all of them.
The single coil guitars aren't quite as hot, and have different tonal balances than the humbucker-only guitars, but, that is the musical reason for changing guitars. And, the tone controls on those single coil guitars offer a surprisingly wide range of sounds.

Now I have to figure out how to go from clean to dirty using one rig
How do you do that with your amp without switching channels? If you do it with your guitar volume knob, the Profiler will do it, too.
