I'll have to try out the amp compression. Never monkeyed with it any.
Display MoreI frequently transport my KPA between 2 rooms, one with a desktop computer I use as a DAW connected to studio monitors and the other with a more "live" setup, connecting to a PA speaker/wedge monitor and using a laptop to run Rig Manager. I have bought quite a lot of commercial packs and also downloaded a lot of free rig packs not available on the Rig Exchange. I like to keep the unaltered rigs on local hard drives. And even though Rig Exchange is awesome, I don't want to get caught in a situation where there's no internet and I can't access a rig I want. I also want .kipr files on my local HD's, not have them buried in the Rig Manager database files - there are times when Rig Manager's files can get corrupted and it won't open. However, importing via USB drive is a pain, so I want them in Rig Manager, which is mainly how I'm going to load them.
So to recap, I have 2 computers that I want to have the same folder organization with .kipr files for all my rigs, and I want these to stay in sync. I want these organizations to be loosely sync'ed with my local library folders in Rig Manager, and I want that to be sync'ed between computers as well.
To sync files between computers, I use dropbox. I have a Kemper folder in my dropbox folder, automatically syncing between computers. I have a few folders in the Kemper folder:
- Commercial Raw
- Commercial Mods
- Free Raw
- Free Mods
- Favorites
- OS
- Utilities
- Backups
OS has subfolders for each FW version, with the kaos.bin file for that version - useful if I ever need to revert. Utilities includes installers for Rig Manager, Cab Maker, and various 3rd party software used to make Kemper life easier. Backups just stores the backup files I copy off of my USB drive.
I separate free and commercial profiles to make sure I'm only sharing free stuff. Free Raw consists largely of profile packs that aren't available on the Rig Exchange but are shared as dropbox links on the forum. I have a subfolder in there for random Rig Exchange profiles I like. Usually I'm importing local files into Rig Manager, not exporting from Rig Manager to my local file system, other than modifications, which are easy - I always put "MAB" in the rig name for modified rigs. In Rig Manager, I look at my profiler and search for "MAB" to see all the modified rigs. Usually it's apparent by the author's name whether it is commercial or not, but if necessary, I can search for the identical rig name w/o "MAB" to see if it appears in Free Raw or Commercial Raw to figure out which it is.
Now, to sync Rig Manager, I make a "Rig Manager" folder under my Kemper folder in dropbox. In here I'm going to copy the entire contents of the Rig Manager data folder from one of my local computers. That's C:\users\username\appdata\local\Kemper Amps\Rig Manager\. I make a shortcut to this folder for each computer (since I have different usernames and thus different paths on each) and also store those shortcuts in my Kemper\Rig Manager folder in dropbox. When I'm finished using Rig Manager on either computer, I close the program, go to my DropBox\Kemper\Rig Manager folder, open the shortcut to the Rig Manager appdata folder, copy the contents, go back to DropBox\Kemper\Rig Manager, delete all the files (except my shortcuts) then paste the updated files. Now when I go to my other computer, before I open Rig Manager, I do the process in reverse. I copy all the Rig Manager files from my dropbox folder, open the shortcut, delete the local files, and paste the copies from the cloud. Boom - everything is in sync.
If you ever have Rig Manager hang on you or it won't start up, I found that the RigExchange.db file can get corrupted. To fix this, I deleted that file, then went into RigExchange.xml and deleted all the <rig ... > lines. Then Rig Manager started up correctly and downloaded any missing Rig Exchange rigs.
Oh Great And Powerful Oz-meambobbo.... I'm not worthy.... I'm not worthy.... have to agree with a previous poster about the old HD500 page.
Love the compressor on the clean and twang tones!!!
I'm addicted... So-Called electrical engineer near Charleston, SC. Play in a cover band on the side. You know you're an addict when you purchase at least $1200 worth of commercial profiles... aCk!!! Thfpppttt!!! Long live DeathTongue!!! Bill The Cat for President!!!
If I've left your store out, take care knowing that I'll probably eventually raid your store, too... Why do I foresee an impending @$$ cutting or a divorce in my future..... :O
I'll have to test that one.
I think I have at least $1200 worth of profiles from MBritt, Top Jimi, Amp Doctor, and sound.de. I think I have music crack addiction, and I'm just a dumb so-called electrical engineer that plays on the side in a cover band near Charleston, SC USA. To those left out, I'm sure I'll go full CRaK mode on you guys before it's over with.
Thinking about plugging my Atomic FR 12+4" horn lens up to my modded/rebuilt 1973 Plush 3000G 140/160 watt tube amp straight into the power amp section. Supposedly the huge azz iron in those things were very nice hifi grade transformers. They are iron beasties! I would expect a fairly uncolored output up to as high as 50-70% of full wattage. I doubt I will ever push it anywhere near the 140/160 watt max output, but have more headroom than the 50 watt built in power amp for larger monitor demand venues.
The rating of the cab is 200 watts and I'll never approach that and power should be in the clean curve.
I'll post the results with the stock atomic FR cab (not wedge) woofer and horn. Looking forward to your comments on the Mission cab and what amp you are using.
Kind of curious about them. Wish Sweetwater had the 24 months same as cash on them. Would be worth trying a Mission powered or passive cab out. How does it sound versus PA and or headphones with some space added? Do you have to tweak the heck out of the output eq?
I've often considered buying the Celestion driver that I assume it contains and using one with the crossover in my atomic just for giggles without even looking at the cab and crossover recommendations. For some reason I try these blind SWAG experiments. Hehe
G String - sorry to be a pain, I know you're busy and being bombarded by requests like this, but I'm not getting a response from support. I changed payment method to paypal also for similar reasons to the other guys on here, old order number is 3447000, new order number is 3447366, please could you confirm that the old order gets cancelled and the new order is treated as early bird? I'm going to be away from computers for a while and didn't want the old order to be processed and miss out on the early bird reservation for the new order while I'm away. Very much appreciated if you do get a chance, I promise I'll never feature request anything else as long as I own a Kemper
My order number is 3447439 and I can't remember if I received the early bird email or chunked it. I think that translates to 105+ days. Hehehe.
Rather than make a whole new editor, I would say just build upon the existing Rig Manger and include the above features. It already has the basis of being a very powerful tool in its current state.
While I definitely like the ability to tweak at will on the unit itself (and Kemper has done a fantastic job of putting the "key" knobs and adjustments on the front panel), there are times when all I want to do it nudge something just 0.10 of a number and doing that with the knobs is a bit difficult sometimes to get that fine of and adjustment with them. Doing that onscreen would be so much easier, not to mention naming profiles would be a piece of cake.
I give Kemper and the unit an A+ Grade otherwise. This unit is revolutionary, to say the least.
Gotta give the man an 20+++++ on this one!!! fjk1138 hit the nail on the head with a 20 lb sledgehammer.
I also agree that it's a remarkable piece of tech and ingenuity.
Sounds like you can semi- "tone match" your FRFR to your quality headphones to get a good proximity to the original profiled amp tone, then? Always wondered about that.
1. Twin 1500 K-watt generators (for Back To The Future amp)
2. McInturff Glory Custom
3. Fender USA Lonestar Strat
4. Jamie playing my Hamer USA Hamer Artist
5. Home made Telecaster copy
6. Carvin DC-127 hair metal beater.
7. Agile Korean LP copy.
8. Schecter Hellraiser with FR running 18 volts on actives.
All jokes aside, if it makes the guitarist happy, it's all good.
All I have to do is remember childhood with a 500 pound Peavey T-60 and a Peavey Heritage amp with the solid state preamp and tube power amp. Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!
Only good thing was I had a tube screamer, a chorus, a flanger, and a compressor. Still had that in college in the late 80's with the addition of an Ibanez Super Metal. Hehe.
I have a Tonelab LE and Tonelab SE I keep for backup. For some reason I still love jamming those things.
Custom rebuild/mod Plush 3000G into various cabs
JBL SR cabs and QSC amps live PA rig
On top of the Plush
Den jam rig with the 50 watt Atomic reactor FR on top of an old original Crate Blue Voodoo cab with vintage 30's (so sue me)
Axe Ultra is gone, but the rig is not rig. Original 2x12 atomic cab with ports closed and eminence governors.
My favorite little custom built 50 watt tube amp and 1x12 closed back.
I am the junkyard dog. Hehehe.
I use headphones when the wife doesn't want to be blasted when practicing or jamming. Monitor wise, I plug into several things.
I find myself really loving the Kemper into headphones plus a little Space added in the output menu. Bliss!
Regardless of when I get mine, I think I'm still keeping the fcb for backup.
