I went down the YouTube rabbit hole this morning and landed on a video by a former KGB Agent talking about subversion tactics, and it inspired me to write a song. I used a Fortin Nameless profile from the Rig Exchange with my 7 string, a factory content AC30 with my Les Paul P90 Gold Top for the middle section, and a factory content bass profile.

I would love to have a Parametric EQ, like the Studio EQ, in the Cab section to further refine the Cab tones. I’d use this over High and Low Shift every time. It would be so awesome to dial out fizz and “waaahhhh” on certain cabs, that would otherwise probably work well; as well as using a HPF on certain cabs that sound great outside of overall boomyness (Low Shift gets really funky sounding quickly).

I really like using a Single Delay-mix around 15%-note value 1/16- (feedback & reverse 0%) then find the thick frequencies around 150 Low Cut and 800-1200 High Cut, stereo 100%, then every other parameter at 0. It’s subtle but it definitely seems to thicken up the tone favorably.

Rumor is these will get addressed after the reverbs are finished. The slick thing about the Kemper: if you like your 808; then throw it in front, or (my preferred) add it into fx loop and set that up as a stomp. Then not only is it on/off midi selectable, you can blend how much you want per profile.

Decided to take a stab at this classic standard. I went for a gypsy meets crooner type thing.

Taylor 914CE with the preloaded “Acoustic B” profile, and a preloaded Bass profile as well. I have much to learn about self recording, but I’m enjoying the process either way.

If you download the Cabmaker you can convert IR files into .kpir files, but they don’t seem to translate very well. If you want to use an IR loader in your DAW for recording, you can shut the Cab section off from the Kemper and use these IR’s instead. The studio profiles typically sound better with the Cab section on vs having it off plus IR’s though.

Nice effort , I'm always pleased to see more and more kemper players taking the road of recording and writing. I dig the room tone, sounds a bit like a blues joint club.

This tool certainly opened lots of perspectives to many frustrated people ( like me before the KPA) as you can really play and don't think too long about getting a killer tone on recording.

It's also a really one of the best hobby around , as you got limitless possibilities in music, I wish I could do this all day long.

Thanks for listening, and for the feedback!

You are absolutely correct. I’ve had my Kemper for years now, and got it simply to capture my own collection of amps so I could leave them at home when I’m out playing. I was excited to learn: It has been indispensable as a recording tool for me already. I have used it to conveniently (and free!) track guitars in a friends studio, while getting DI stems for re amping at the big studio where drums and vocals got done.

This is the best hobby anyone could ever have. I’m with you too, I play as often as possible. I like the Kemper because it is so quick and painless to have my own favorite amps at any volume, in any routing configuration, at any time of day/night with exceptional sound. It’s the best piece of gear in the modern era IMO.

It's not just about enjoying the journey, which of course is paramount; what I was trying (unsuccessfully!) to get across is that one cannot replicate that feeling of first recording one's self... IMHO.

No different from losing one's virginity, I s'pose, or getting drunk or stoned for the first time.

The point being that you may need to draw on it some day; if I'd realised this, I would've made more of an effort to mark the occasion somehow, or at least write down how I felt.

Ah yes, I know what you mean now. If I could capture the words, I’d say it’s half frustration, from knowing what I want it to do, but not sure how to achieve it; and half elation, from having a random idea in my head actually play back through speakers! So I suppose it could be aptly described as Frustelating! :D

Yeah I think you’re right. It sounds a bit too loud, but also like a mic was placed quite a ways away from the amp. I’ll have to check those reverb settings in the plugin. Probably what’s causing that sound. Thanks for the feedback though!

I’ve noticed over the years that there have been a couple periods (maybe a glitch or software bug?) that I felt I needed to keep the cab section on with my 4x12. It would get real harsh and raspy if it was “Monitor Cab Off” just like it sounds through a PA or FRFR without cab emulation.
This was even occurring recently, up until I did the spring reverb update, and it corrected itself. Now I can toggle the Cab button on and off with no difference in tone from my cab. I’m not sure what caused it, but I did the update and dumped all but maybe 30 profiles (vs 500+ before). I definitely prefer the sound now vs needing to run the cab sim on. It sounded okay, but was always very dark and bass heavy. Worked well for clean profiles though.

Haha yeah the possibilities are endless once you take control. I’ve always got random songs running in my head, now I can sit down and just record them! I do look forward to seamlessly running my DAW and having the experience under my belt, but I will definitely enjoy this journey as it unfolds along the way.

I’ll preface this by saying I’m primarily a metal player. I’ve worked on a few albums and EP’s; but I’m brand new to self recording. I just got an interface, DAW, monitors etc. over the last week or so.

This is one of my first attempts. I’m still getting familiar with the basic functions of digital recording, but luckily the Kemper made the fun part (tracking) a breeze. I used mostly stock profiles on this. Acoustic B, an AC30, and a bass profile all are from the pre loaded stuff. I used a Michael Britt Dumble (don’t remember which pack) for the solo. The acoustic is my Taylor 914CE and the electric is my American Standard Strat with Sumerium Cobalts Noiseless single coils.

I’ve got a block letter, 6505, and a 6505+ and the block and 6505 are identical. Same exact circuit and chassis. Different badges and original tubes is all that separated them. The + is a little brighter and tighter, but less aggressive and raw. It’s minimal but noticeable side by side.
The EVH models have nice modern touches and a more refined sound. I find them a bit neutered and lacking the tone that made the original such a beast. They are good amps, but I prefer the Peavey’s.
Ive found that running a clean boost (TS9 or 808) in front sounds best by reducing the mids on the amp to around 3-4. Even better is to throw an EQ in the effects loop and pull the mids out there. You get all the grind in the distortion from heavily boosted mids up front, but can balance the sound out here.

There are cathode biased amplifiers and fixed bias amplifiers. Amps like the Fender Champ, Tweed Deluxe, Vox AC 30 are cathode biased, which don’t require bias adjustment.
Then you get fixed bias amps like most Marshall’s,Peavey, Mesa Boogie etc. where there is either a resistor with a fixed value; or a variable resistor (potentiometer) with an operating range that must be set when replacing tubes.
This Orange Divo is saying it works with either fixed resistor or bias adjustable amps. The old school and /or inspired (like Matchless now adays) that use a Cathode bias don’t work with it.

I think I’m more intrigued by this notion that there is some sort of competition between digital platforms among users. Do people actually care if one unit is more popular than another? If so, do you feel it reflects poorly on your decision making skills?

I have quite a few high gain tube amps and I purchased the Kemper to capture all my favorite tones. I have never once thought that I should check with the rest of my region to see if I should be using this or Fractal. I don’t care what other guys use, or which is more popular.

You’re not the first guy to request an editor, so I understand that people would like one. It just seems a bit covetous to me: the degenerative “it’s not fair, those guys have it so we should have it too” mentality. If the editor is that important to you, and the available third party option is deemed unacceptable; then sell the Kemper and get another AxeFX or Helix or whatever the group has decided is best for your money.
