Gain is used in many styles for bass Brother Alan, so it wouldn't be a "guarantee".
+1
Yeah true. I was more responding to the clean, crunch, lead part of the request.

Just use your ears!
Jokes aside. You can sort by gain. Does that provide a helpful option perhaps?

Tonal profile?
Compared to what?
We are not talking about variations on a certain profile.
But to visually evaluate hundreds of profiles based on the level, we don't know measured based on what, of four frequencies???
It wouldn't be possible even if we passed a single white noise into the KPA, instead of a complex guitar sound.
Yeah. Not saying it's easy or even possible to do :). The profiler do pass noise through the profiler when profiling, so IF it was possible it could be done by comparing the white noise input to the corresponding output. But then again EQ might be tweaked afterwards. So back to perhaps good idea, but difficult to implement.
-
Hm not the worst idea ever. Could also be hard to make useful though.
Can we stop the "use your ears" argument please? We all do that but sometimes it's nice to be able to sort by gain, and perhaps by tonal profile.

This is exactly what i don't catch !
If you see already the screen with values and see that the top end is at 0.6, do you turn towards the drummer and say him : "i won't change anything cause i've already pushed this parameter" ? Or you turn the button to cut the mix ?
I like to be able to see it without moving anything, the same way I like to see the leds around the gain knob. It's really that simple. So if something sounds/is off I can see at a glance what it might be. Not trying to convince you to feel the same way by any means.

how can it be invalid?
the 'secret' to good tone, mixing or even sound design has always been to really listen first.True. But we use your wonderful products in so many situations where you can't trust your ears. Or don't have time to. Sometimes your drummer asks you to add a bit of top end, and then you know that typically means adding 0.3. And then it is helpful to see the starting point without having to move the dial first. Please just acknowledge that people have different needs. Please
-
Yeah. The "use your ear" argument is equally valid/invalid for most other parameters. Gain, phaser manual, chorus depth. You name it.
-
Maybe when pressing the now obsolete EQ button they could be showed without having to touch the dials first?
-
IF it blinked in time I would speculate that from time to time it would be useful in terms of starting songs.
-
I see it more of an Amp than an Effects pedal. You always leave your amps on, or at least on standby. Effects are the ones that go on and off.
Sorry. What?
-
They're better for sure.....but 10 times better?
Not a chance.Well that's not exactly how pricing works anyway :). Sometimes it's hard to make a small difference, yet people might be willing to pay for the improvement.

Wonderful post Per. Thank you.

Are you using any plugins in Cubase? Check your channel strip settings. Are you recording onto a stereo track? Do you have any technology like Sonarworks/SoundID enabled? And most importantly: Are you listening at the same level between live playing and playback? You might also hear the resonance of the strings while tracking. Try with headphones. Is the difference still there?

Sorry everyone, I should have clarified - we use S16 snake boxes to our X32. So, XLR is the only option for inputs right now.
I plan on using a 25 foot XLR to TRS 1/4" cable this weekend at a gig to connect direct from the player to our snake box.
I'll post on my experience!
Right on. Just for absolute clarification. Since you mention snake boxes it's not actually an sd16 you are using? (since those have jack sockets in the middle)
-
However our board only takes XLR.
Note that you can use the AUX sockets for channel inputs as well on the x32. So you have both 1/4" and coaxial available.

It doesn't bother me as much as it used to, but I can support this request anyway! Know the feeling.
