Hey guys
so we had the first show tonight in Sendai. As you aptly predicted, trying to do a restore failed until we updated the firmware/OS to match my Kemper.
then 10 minutes later the restore worked perfectly and off we went. What a pleasure to just sound exactly the same without having to bring anything but the bass guitar.
And thanks to all AGAIN for the able assistance.
i’m glad I asked here in time or we WOULD have been in trouble. -
Exactly this.
I think ckemper is fully aware of the fact that emulating "the speaker/"the cab" is still a challenge, and will always be.
I think he well articulated the issues for some people..
which is: that for a lot of us on the bigger stages we are USED to only hearing amps through our in-ears anyway... before Kemper and such a lot of bands were hiding the cabs, mic'ed, off stage or in iso boxes anyway...
so for US, getting used to hearing what FOH hears through a mic was a done deal anyway.

You guys are the best.
Thanks for all the wise and generous assistance.
-
thanks!
so that reveals the installed version .txt file which says:
13437
not much help there! is it?
thanks all, for all the assistance.

thanks
I unarchived the backup and get this:
no sign of an "installed version"

I’m not sure. Sorry
because my KPA has been on the road I haven’t done the ‘latest’ OS update (with the new reverbs etc).
so it’s still on whatever was the up to date version before that came out.
and so the backup would have been made from That OS as well.
now I don’t have access to it before we leave for Japan next week. -
along these lines, anyone have a hint where I can download the PREVIOUS version of the Operating System, not the latest?
thanks
-
so, on the matter of compatible" OS
do you think that if the rental KPA is on the latest OS, but the backup was made from the previous iteration, that would be a problem?
or to put it another way, is the issue that they need to be the same, or just that the KPA shouldn't be on an older version?

So, I'm about to leave for a tour in Japan and the backline company is providing a Kemper and remote (well, two actually, as a backup)... so all we are bringing is a few redundant copy USB thumb drives with my backups on them.
Is there something I need to know, or to worry about?
Will it matter if their Kemper OS is different?
People tell me they just bung in the memory stick, do a Restore from Backup, and are good to go.
any experiences or hints?
thanks in advance!

What you are describing is in the inherent nature of echo/delay regeneration.
any delay pedal or rack unit placed in front of any amp or distortion device behaves exactly as you’re describing.
-
on the plus side, it's RARE that a guitar amp (including the Kemper profiles of guitar amps) need to be recorded in "stereo"
I don't know what DAW you're using, but it no doubt has better reverbs and stereo delays and other ways to make things "stereo" available to you than the Kemper has built in.
I almost never record guitars in stereo.
-
the compressor isn’t modeling the tonal characteristics... and you should be able to approximate most of the attack/release behaviour of those compressors.
The notable exception being dual or auto release settings.
-
I think the issue with “mix ready” is that it all depends on what else is in the mix. ...
and who's mixing.
I find a lot of the MBritt profiles, for example, totally fine in a mix with little to no eq.
and I've mixed a few records.

My rack, in its case, sits on top of my cab, in its flight case
-
I had Thomann make a custom one similar to the one shown above, but shock mounted and with extra spaces in the racks and rear rack rails
they're well made

we use Sennhesier wireless units. (and wired for the drummer)
