Forgive me if these have been answered but I couldn’t find any clear answers online or in the manual.

    1. Should I be using Low or High Z XLR cables to connect the Kemper to an interface or mixer? Sadly enough I didn’t know there was a difference but noticed high and low z written on two different xlr cables.
    2. When I do connect the Kemper to a input on my interface, should it be set to line or mic level?

    Thank you ??

    Superb playing :thumbup:Really enjoying this.

Seems we're after the same kind of sound. Recently I've tested an external overdrive in front of the KPA. And it did the trick for me, a little more touch response for that palm mute legato stuff. Actually I did not want to use any pedals along with the KPA, but eventually I like this external drive better than the ones in the KPA. In my case it is a One Control Strawberry.

    Greetings

I’m right there with you man... I tried and liked the sound of my J Rocket overdrives with the Kemper and loved it too but... that defeats the purpose of why I bought it. I just want one cable in the front and the foot switch controller on the ground. It’s almost there, not sure how to get it that extra step quite yet.

I recorded Guitars and Bass through this, no plug in added, just slight panning on guitars.

I used MBritts victory 50 profiles and his Princeton for clean in the beginning.

    Original tune of mine.

The overdrive isn’t quite where I want it to sound but it’s not bad, just not as smooth as I’d like it. Looking for that Tim Miller, Allan holdworth, Tom quayle fusion legato tone. A lot of which comes from the hands but there’s a sound there’s eq’ing to be done too.

I find most high gain profiles have too much woofy low end, so I Low Cut around 200hz and High Cut around 9-10khz.

This has proven a useful tip man. I'm getting some better results using the "Cut the mix" studio eq preset in kemper and then adding your tip on low/high cut

I think you should start with some theory first ;)

This is great man! Thank you for sharing this

Dudemanbrother I was trying out your tips man, I'm hitting the same wall though... I just don't know what i'm listening for. I don't even know what Q stands for :pinch:. The EQ diving parameters rabbit hole is quite deep. I'll revist this but I just need to play guitar for awhile. I've been on a tone hunt for too many days in a row now.

    anytime! :)

I would actually do this but I live in Hawaii. I see how a lot of big artists usually get together with specialists that help them set up there elaborate rigs and I wonder what I'm missing out on with the kemper sometimes because I just don't know what it really capable of. In any case, I'll take the great recommendations you and others have been making and keep at it.

modern high gain sounds and bright sounding clean sounds have one thing in common - strong cuts in the midrange.

therefore quite a few modern high gain sounds (like the ones in Lasse Lammerts Rig Pack for example) make surprisingly good clean sounds if you just turn the GAIN all the way down.

For modern High Gain are you recommending to roll back the mids knob on the eq? And are these tweaks happening pre or post Stack?

MBritt’s clean profiles are always nice to my ears. I use his deluxe 4 - profile for cleans. Tone junkie stuff is almost to bright for me but you might like it. Try profiles that have like 2.5-3.5 gain settings and then roll the gain back too.

If you want a shape distortion always try to use EQ before (pre) distorion unit. Think of this in that way:

    - to distort low frequency you have to roll off some high frequency before distortion (or gain low frequencies) and vice versa

    - to distort desired frequency range you have to make louder this frequency range so it will start distort first

Interesting, so if I wanted to shape an high gain to have good smooth clarity (no fuzzy lows or sharp highs) what would you recommend twisting first? I understand that the definition knob is the first place to start once that seems set and I just want to polish it what would you do? Btw, would you eq through your studio monitors or guitar cab?

I'm not clear on what is "missing" that the pedals replace? Clearly its more than one thing else you wouldn't need multiple pedals.

There are so many profiles out there that surely you can find something with the eq curve and gain that you are after. Many amps have been profiled with pedals as well...

Your only other option is to replicate the sound you are after with a real amp, along with your pedals and profile...

The multiple pedals are because I like to have a few different overdrives patches for different parts or genres all together.

I wish I could profile stuff but it’s just to damn loud and I really don’t have the proper mics or experience. I tried once and it was pretty bad. Wish I could link up with someone experienced and use legit gear and rooms.

Did you guys figure this out? I was just researching into this to use external overdrives in performance mode.

For instance bank 3 is just one mid gain pedal assigned, then bank 4 is a separate loop for a high gain pedal and bank 5 for another loop for a fuzz pedal.

Curious if this is similar to how you guys were intending to use it.

paults Thanks for the great links! I was searching but I never saw these but they're pretty much what I was imagining in terms of size.

I will say though, If I could figure out how to EQ the Mid to High Gain profiles I've already been using I would feel like i'm getting the most out of the amp. Using the external overdrives is really me just giving up on digital distortion but part of me thinks that I could achieve what i'm looking for if I had a better understanding of EQ'ing

    Thanks for your help man.

paults I really only want to use 3 External Overdrive pedals. I wonder, is there a small switcher out there that is midi programmable where I could just make a small second pedal board that I leave behind the amp plugged in with shorter cables which will allow me to still use the kemper Remote up front? Or should I be looking to a Midi Loop switcher that will replace the KPA remote and do all my switching for me?

Thanks for sharing these settings. I'm just so lost when it comes to EQ things. I like those 2-4 knob tube amps, For me all the options here seem a mystery. Is there any video or referance you could share that would help me better understand how to understand EQ better?
