I’m very excited about this for competitive reasons. I’m sure CK has ideas for v2 hardware or at minimum how to continue unlocking what I hear is more under the hood of the existing unit. This could drive some urgency there, but I realize they’rea small team with limited bandwidth.
I’ve played a jumping game - not quite to the degree I see on TGP- from cheap modeling amps to Helix to Kemper. I’m still in the Kemper Stage honeymoon period (purchased around release) and I’m excited to wait the next 8-12 months for this launch and subsequent updates.
What’s known about Neural effects? I am quite pleased with Kemper’s but like most find ODs / distortion to be lacking. There’s something about hitting a profile with the Pure Booster that’s much nicer than simply increasing profile gain. I don’t have the same comments for the ODs unless an EQ is added, but that then takes up another slot.
Thanks Phil. It appears the individual above your post is experiencing the same. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for an update that could help but I won’t hold my breath. I know we’re a smaller use case against everything Kemper is doing. Loving the editor regardless!!
Thanks for your info. Someone else is using a Lenovo touchscreen tablet and says it works amazingly.
Do you know who? Would love to compare settings or something. Never had issues with the Helix editor so I’m hoping it’s not hardware related.
I use a relatively inexpensive Surface Pro copy (Acer Switch Alpha) and if you’re only using touchscreen it might be a frustrating experience. The virtual knobs don’t move in alignment with how I drag my finger (eg slowly moving rig volume jumps from 0-6-12db).
Maybe it’s user error which if so, please let me know what I’m doing wrong!!
When you perform the calibration, just don't move the pedal all the way to the heel but keep it a little ahead. Leave a little buffer basically. Do the same with the toe in case it rises up slightly when you take your foot off.
Thank you! Luckily I didn’t need a workaround. Against my normal rules I overtighted the hex screws and the pedal works like new. Good to know this procedure for future reference!
ShadowJumper Stringing people along, maybe.
I disagree with the rest.
This isn’t aimed at you, but I’m not sure why so many people are quick to imply bad intentions being demonstrated by Kemper.
They are clearly a bit strained and not able to update us frequently for reasons unknown to the general public, but I doubt they’re aiming to tarnish their pretty long-standing reputation for an “Editor-Gate”.
I’m new to the platform but have tracked Kemper for some time now. I’m open to anything I’ve missed that may warrant a reassessment of my opinions.
I’ve been using the balanced tone and it’s very good but the effect feels more faint than the album. Upping the mix helps but then you hear a ton of artifacts. Any other tips to replicate this sound? Micropitch?
Not sure this is the right topic for this, so feel free to delete if so!
My expression pedal (DVP1XL) has a minor issue despite tightening the hardware I think is the cause:
When in heel position, it slightly raises up so I can never use the @heel option to disable the wah.
Is there a way to calibrate what the Kemper believes is heel?
If not can I tape something under there and then recalibrate the Kemper to offset the issue?
EDIT: I posted too fast, but decided to keep this up so others might learn from it. I am using the latest OS (7.1.2) and had to reboot the Kemper and recalibrate. Give it a shot if the below sounds like you!
I have been using a Dunlop DVP1XL for volume for years and was pleased to hear this model's family is highly recommended as an expression pedal for the Kemper.
I've downloaded the giant Wah pedal presets from this forum and have been excited to dig in.
That said, my was only seems to start/work when the pedal is about 20% past heel position. For those that know the pedal it seems to be the starting point for when the tension screw starts doing its work. I have that screw set for a smooth throw until toe position. There is no resistance.
I've calibrated the pedal in the Kemper and still don't get any noticeable change in the wah until that point. Is this normal procedure?
Grateful for any troubleshooting tips or generally how you're configuring this pedal to work best as a Wah for Kemper.
Picked these up for cheap. Seem to work well and don’t block the LEDs.
Will test durability next time I’m out but I don’t see how they’d fall apart compared to the Mooer Shrooms.
Will post pics this weekend if there’s interest.
Good to know in case these don’t work out. Might have to get over the color thing (my brains going to look at the colors and assume some kind of correlation haha).
Thanks all. I did take a shot at some cheap aluminum ones and will report back in a few days when I have a chance to install.
I bought the shrooms before but they’re a bit flimsy. I didn’t see the full plastic caps from Mooer in clear without waiting for shipping from China but now I’m thinking about them again! Will come back soon to share how this works out!
Thanks forester - I really like them and might just wait it out until I have extra cash
Paul - I like that idea a lot. The wood might be a nice touch too.
Do any of you use footswitch toppers on the stage? I’m clumsy and want the added surface area but don’t want to block the LEDs if I can.
Suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Barefoot buttons are out of my price range and I would like a uniform color like clear (which would solve the LED problem) or silver.
Was thinking the below but they might block the LEDs.
Your JCM900 and Cameron are killer Guido!!! Can’t wait to try the other packs I picked up later this week. Thank you for the generous sale.
Matt was kind enough to offer me a few packs for a discounted rate to get to know his products. The BE is becoming one of my favorite profiles. I only bought it for the crunch and more gainy sounds and these profiles sing. They're aggressive and don't lose clarity when digging in. The number of options he provides is great. Love the Fat modes.
It might be my volume levels or setup (primarily playing through JBL 305 mk i and into a Fender Mustang via aux in and a lot of Friedman's (and Marshall's for that matter) are very boomy. Matt's are not and still have a nice low end to them. This has been a big plus.
Going to be digging into the Camerock (initial impressions are fantastic) and Vishnu (a little honky for me, but it's likely my JB hum bucker) and will post once they've been through their paces.
I’ll play along...
We are waiting so long because drives are included in the update.
Are there any plans for a similar approach to the profiles themselves?
Very cool calls on the MIDI, I hadn’t thought about that. Guess I know what’s on the Christmas list this year.
