Strange 'green scream' stompbox behaviour

i noticed that the control on this stomp model don't work or sound anything like a real tubescreamer. this affects mainly the 'tone' control. i've compared it to my maxon OD808 and could get it to sound similar by setting the tone to around -2.5 (around 9 o'clock) on the 'green scream' to match the sound of the maxon with the tone at noon (should be zero in the KPA).

anyone else notice this?
