In Search of the Holy Grail, Part II (Smokin' Joe B.)

  • the carol-ann indeed is a gem, lightbox. thanx for the hint
i mixed the band a little bit to the background this time, this explains the "muddy", but i will try the other tipps, sounds very helpful

  • geraldo proudly presents the final version of "high water" (1.3.)
now eat this , lightbox!! :D 8) (just kiddin')
the caroll-ann turned out to not work perfectly here with my guitar, so i decided to take a profile of a two-rock by
mats nermark instead. and bang! how is it? okay, now?
has been fun and raised another question. i have found this enlightening article about joe. he states:

Q-Do you ever like playing through just one amp? A: I’m not a firm believer in one amp being able to do it all.

he always uses a combination of two of his amps. is it really not possible? two profiles at once? the longer i think
about it the stronger gets the wish to have that done. but the last time this topic was discussed it almost ended in
WW III, so no new thread about this.

hope you like it and we call it a day here. the holy grail of steve vai has yet to be found

  • Hi Geraldo, you should try this new one (16th of April)

TRIPTIK LEAD-4 Carol Ann Triptik 50 112 With Scumback by Tim

Same league as your Cream JTA45 IMO : thick ,fat , juicy & cleans up as a real tube amp. The whole gain range is usable

  • thank you waraba for the hint! :D it is almost impossible to check all those nu profiles nowadays.
i have bought the carol-ann from andy and this profile and those sub-profiles i can only recommend!
but i will check this one out asap, ofcourse
ah, i forgot: the coyote is worth a try, too.

  • good news for the bonamassa maniacs! 8o four (4) dvds will be released in october.
four different setups, four bands. i am curious what he actually used onstage!?
i prefer to this day his power trio phase with kevin kramme and eric czar. check his old records out!
and i can say it again and again: without joe i would not know about my favourite amp of all time: the vanWeelden Twinkleland.
(there is a donation ware profile available from fellow user mats nermark).

    cheers, cant wait till october

  • I was there Hammersmith Apollo, right at the front right of stage, some videos posted on my YouTube account for those interested, look up Cybertwin68

  • Sloe Gin Filmed by my wife at The Hammersmith Apollo on the 28th March 2013, this was filmed using a Lumix TZ20

filmed by your wife with a lumix, well done! the sound is much much better than i expected - at least for the 300 euros or less you pay for the Lumix.
goodness, things have changed since woodstock, havent they? :D saw him only once in a packed concert hall with 1500 people. did not make it to the first row like you ,
but was close enough to study his 4-amp-setup of the sloe gin tour.

  • Glad you liked it :)
The other video the montage I shot with my iPhone, I know that it shows his back line on there, was an awesome sound and bloody loud !!!!!! Lmao
Someone in the crowd from his fan club saw my wife's camera and told her that the Lumix was great at video and that's what they use all the time at concerts, it was our 1st attempt and was really pleased with the results.

  • just received one of the new four (4!) {quatro!} dvd packages: joe live with a horn section for the AFAIK first time!!!!!!!!!!! @shepherd's bush

what does the master play this time? two four input marshalls that look to my eyes as JTMs-45 and the Diaz Vibramaster. it will take some weeks
before i have all of the 4 sets. if you know his setup during the other 3 concerts: please post 'em!

    cheers

  • Have received all 4 BluRays today but still have to watch all of them. :)
First episode (Borderline Club) is 2 Marshall Silver Jubilees into one Category5 4x12 Tall Straight cabinet with EV12s

My take on the 4 concerts (to be completed):

    Borderline Club (90min)
Uninspired, unprepared, bass man looking horribly bored and uninterested. Joe's playing: average at best.
    2 Marshall Silver Jubilees

    Shepherd's Bush Empire (101min)
Great stuff! Joe in his best playing mood, worth every cent! Great band.
    2 Marshalls, 1 Diaz

    Hammersmith Apollo (117min)
The Rock night! Hu? Starting with 5 acoustic guitar performances? Nice songs, well played, great sounding guitars, nothing spectacular though.
Then the rock night starts with Cradle Rock, great contrast ... pretty sure this gig will rock and groove. Tal Bergman is a monster, he really pushes the band forward. Carmine Rojas is a tasteful bass player, I really like him a lot. One of my highlights on this DVD/BluRay is the quiet middle part of "Who's been talking" but there's a lot to enjoy. My verdict: Good stuff. Like it. But please, Joe, get rid of these double-neck guitars.
    3 Marshalls, 1 Diaz, 1 Friedman

    Royal Albert Hall (135min)
40 minutes of unplugged workout. Nice, but I already own the Vienna Acoustic concert BluRay. Joe's a pretty good acoustic player. But 40 minutes of 135 minutes total? And right at the beginning? Hmm, not sure I like that. My personal opinion after watching this BluRay once: Great concert, rock solid work ... apart from the to songs "Who's Been Talking" and "Happier Times". In these two songs he's supported by the bass and drum player from the Borderline Club. What a difference! So glad that Tal Bergman and Carmine Rojas came back after 2 songs.
Nice that Joe makes sure the other guys get some income as well ... but let's be honest, he didn't do himself a favour.
My verdict: Kind of mixed so far. Maybe have to listen again after a week or so. To much Bonamassa in 1 day? :D
    3 Marshalls, 1 Diaz, 1 Friedman

There was also a Friedman there end of amp row far left

    • i cannot see the friedman, i have to look closer
    • oops, borderline was next on my list, hmmm ...
    • i checked: yes JB did have a horn section in L@RAH and it seems it is the same here
    • shepherd's bush indeed seems to be a highlight, does it not?
    • i give it 4 stars, maybe more after second listen, IMHO tal bergman, the drummer gives the band
a little extra edge and he plays so precisely with a monster smash on the snare, i love him! while - errhh ... - well the bass player is a wonderful musician, but not much of a rocker, anyway: good concert.
    • while i give "live at the rockpalast" 5 and 1/2 *, still the best ever

My occupation: showing teenagers the many hidden secrets of the A-minor chord on the guitar.

  • another proof that too much of even the best is a little too much :D . the shortest concert is 90 minutes? the longest 2 hours ++? uff!
thank you very much indeed, Martin Lightbox!! for the detailed info, i am a JB addict, too, but will hear the boxes one by one. so lack of
    money has sometimes an advantage?

---------------erh, we need a thankYOU-button asap.----------------------------------------

  • Do we have a Marshall specialist here? Upon further investigation, i think JB uses two Super Lead Plexis on night II, the blues night, but i am not sure.
Are the two jubilees from night I, the trio night, "normal" silver jubilees or were they modified and -
last, but not least is there ANYWHERE on the RE or pro profiles a good SILVER JUBILEE? (no guessing please, if you own it, i would
    appreciate the hint.)

Another question: are the you tube vids now available from the borderline from the "real" dvd or made with mobiles? they sound horrible sometimes.

    thx
