I got the best results by mixing different IR's of different cabinets + mics. For example I always liked Royer R121 looking to the center of a Marshall G12M speaker but it lacked low end. When I moved the mic to the cone I was losing the presence. What I do now is, I mix different IR's (121 at cone of Marshall with 4038 at cap of Soldano, Sm57 at cone edge of Basketweave etc.) at the Daw, match the output level to -6 db, mixdown it, and use the cabmaker. This way I can use different fundamentals of different combinations. You can even apply EQ or FFT Filter to the final mixed IR, if you find some frequencies disturbing. I use my custom cabinets since then. Just wanted to share this technique. I hope you find it useful.

Does your headphone cable has a volume potentiometer on it? Did you try to get the cable from your back so it does not interfere with the pickups. I had the similar problem.
