Schecter Merrow KM7 MKII (and others like it)

I've been thinking of getting back to my metal roots lately. I haven't owned a baritone or 7-string guitar in quite some time, so when I started looking around for entry level or mid level options I quickly became overwhelmed by choices. Seems this low tuned metal thing has caught on.

Anyway, this beast caught my eye and seems to have a great combination of features that I am looking for: stainless frets, after market pickups, extended scale, Hipshot hardware. However my only experience with Schecter guitars was a poorly made Omen model I had many years ago. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with their newer offerings or this model in general.

I've never owned a Shecter, but I've always liked the fact that their artist models are not divided into various grades. Their hardware also seems quite good.

I think to really gel with a guitar though, you should try it out before you buy. You might also get to see other options in the store.

Among the Schecters, you might also want to check out the Jeff Loomis models, though those use EMGs.

I own the 6 string version. Great guitar, great fretwork, and comfortable neck. The guitar is a good deal for the price. I got mine used and it's a keeper. Looks much better in real life and extremely comfortable to play. I am not a huge fan of the bridge pickup, but it works. The neck pickup actually sounds very nice and love the tone I get out of it.

That is gorgeous! I'm sold.

Quick question - does the compensated nut allow for changing to heavier gauge strings? Or are the nut slots cut too narrow for that?
