Everyone seems to want vintage and quite often vintage is / was crap.
agree with everything but that... I play vintage and you can tell the difference.. maybe you're buyin cheapo?? in todays market, vintage is much less expensive than 10 years ago... 5 years for that matter... it's a buyers market. But still to find a vintage strat or LP or 175... you gotta hunt.. what hasn't changed is some guitars got it, others don't... it's all personal preference. I'd argue that it'd be difficult to find another strat comparable to my '63... or a 175 comparable to my '61... much less an acoustic that would hold water against my '40 or '49 Martins... sure there's great guitars out there.. just found a fantastic 59' LP reissue and a '52 AVRI Tele.. both sound and play great! but vintage still floats my boat.. -

Oz's got some funky blues... great style... and Warren.... he's laying a nice line... not at the same level of improve as Oz but still nice with the vibe that's going on.

Nice concept in theory, but not practical in Las Vegas. Stores these days only carry a limited amount of demos. And they are not representative of the guitar they need to order and have shipped in for you to purchase. They might not let you in the store when you return the ninth guitar and ask them to order another. Thats retail limitations.
Its pretty obvious what the Internet purchasing limitations are. If you start ordering and returning 10 guitars the company will soon put you on their blacklist.
So I think in this market your philosophy isnt credible.
man... I totally disagree with your proposition.. if you're gonna live with a guitar and bond with it, you've got to spend the time to search for it... period. The great ones don't just show up on your doorstep in a box without some serious effort to find it first. Research is key amongst internet buying but still that is clearly fallible. I'd hypothesize that most of the players here put their hands on a guitar, actually many of them, before they buy... otherwise, within months, it'll be out the door for another. I find myself searching all the time... and playing a lot.. some to resell and others to keep; a stable is something that takes time and effort. So at least for what it's worth... maybe spend more time touching, feeling and listening before the next strat... instead of looking for the best deal. -
I sense G String lurking in the dark corner.... waiting... planning.... it'll be soon... very soon now.

Like Andy said by himself, there's no "best", there's just "different", the rest is simply personal taste.
I found the most profiles I like at Soundside.de AND TAF, so for me the whole discussion about "best" is useless.
my thoughts exactly... There's lots of profiles that I dig.. TAF has some wonderful ones that I use and Soundside is my numero uno profile for the Pink Taco!.. just smokes.. TAF has some great goto's for tweed and boutique sounds, not to mention the Marshalls... but still there are lots of great freebie profiles too... My top dawg is the '78 Dumble, which isn't a Dumble but it still sounds fantastic once you dial the amp attributes in... and the Fuchs ODS... man the list just keeps goin' on and on.. -
yup! would love to know the outcome!

ma that clip is about as fizzy as it gets.. so I've got a couple of passages on a track or two that sound similar.. guess I'm having an aliasing issue as well. Thanks for point ing it out.. What I've don in the past is switch guitars.. it seems more dominant on my cobra, which has a 6 ohm front pickup.. when I move to a gibson with humbuckers, the issue seems to go away.. (using the same profile)
