Agree. Variable speed would be a great feature. Take advantage of the technology.

I migrated from a POD HD500 to a Kemper for my church environment. I am very successfully using the HD500 as my midi controller for the Kemper. I set it up so all the buttons work the same as they did when I was modeling with the HD500, including tap tempo, volume, and wah. Plus the HD500 becomes a handy backup in case of a Kemper failure. The other feature I like is the tuner on the Kemper displays automatically when the volume pedal is pulled back to zero. Very handy. I actually like that better than using a muted tuner button for live use.
