Today, I added some Minwax Cherry 235 to the top. Will let this dry a few days before doing the satin wipe-on Poly.
Update, frets polished, toners serviced and polished. Letting her dry for a while before putting the tuners back on.
This weekends project, was to work on the Ovation 1868 Rescue.
I tried some Satin Poly last week, and it looked like crap. The stuff was old, and some of it looked satin, some gloss, so trashed that idea.
Stripped it back and will apply a new Satin Wipe-on Poly from a NEW can [Blocked Image: https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/emoji.php/v9/ta5/1.5/16/1f642.png]
Sanding around the epaulets is a real pain, but I think it will be fine.
The dark line on the top is where there was a slight crack. This came from where the body separated from the bowl in a small place, and was bulged slightly. Forced glue in and glued the top to the bowl. Everything is solid, but not sure why that darkened (it was like that when I got it). Not gonna worry about it, gives it character [Blocked Image: https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/emoji.php/v9/ta5/1.5/16/1f642.png]
After the finish, will dress and polish the frets.
More photos to come as it progresses. Sitting next to the Glen Campbell I'm finished with.
My NEW / OLD Guitar!
I've completed the repairs on the old 1976 1617-4 Glen Campbell guitar. Cleated the crack in the top, disassembled all the tuners and cleaned and lubed, polished the frets.
Once I got it all together, the intonation on the low "E" was so far off, that at the 12th fret, it was almost an "F". I know it has the correct saddle, and no reason for this to happen. Before I started messing with the guitar, I swapped the low "E" string with my other Ovation 1768, that I use the same strings on. I couldn't believe it, it was the string! Now the 1768 has the problem.
This was a brand new set of Adamas 1818e strings, and I have used these since the 80's. Lesson Learned! Luckily I keep a few sets of these in stock. Keep this in your head if you EVER have an intonation problem on a guitar that had none before a string change!
I had to hydrate this for a few months, the get the big crack in the top to close. I had no intention of making it invisible, but refinishing the top, I just wanted to stop it from spreading, and keep the MoJo for this. Still messing a little with the shims to get the prefect string height, but it sounds incredible! The first photo is what the fingerboard looked like when I rescued it from the pawn shop.

My Saturday Night...
My son's HS band performed at a competition in our little home town. So nice not having to make a 2 hour drive to see them. Heading to the venue, I get an emergency call. Their Fender Aerodyne Bass broke a tuner.
I go back home, gather parts and tools, and meet them at the school. 10 minutes later, new tuner, and good as new. It's what I do
They paid me back by being the Grand Champions out of 22 bands.
So proud of him/them!
Here is their performance.

I've always loved the way the Ovation necks feel.
Why do you have a block of C4 and a detonator attached to one of your guitars? If it's been bad, wouldn't a scolding be more appropriate?
Just say NO to Crack(s)...go big or go home
I have three new (old) guitars. Two need work, one is mint condition!
First one, 1976, Ovation 1627-4 Glen Campbell model - needs work, Pawn Shop Find
Second one, 1993 Ovation 1868 Elite - needs work - Facebook Marketplace Find
Third, 1987 Ovation 1712 Custom Balladeer, absolutely MINT condition! My local Guitar Shop
The 1627-4 had a long crack with separation, being humidified and wit the weights sitting on the caised crack, the separation has gone from about 6 inches of light showing through to 2. Once I get it closed, I will cleat the crack from the back.
I love Ovation guitars...I also have a 1768 I have had new since back in the 80's, and an 1858 12-string purchased new in 2002.
Old thread resurrected!
So glad I got this cab from Zilla.
I see now that Rig Manager offers a 7+ Beta for the Toaster, I installed that, and I'm good.
I opened Rig Manager, and it said I needed an update, so I let it do it.
Now when I start it says I need 7.0.00 or higher for my Profiler Powered Toaster.
When I go to Kemper, I see 7.01 but for the Stage only?
Where is 7 for the Toaster?
Can't figure out why. All Guitars. If not touching strings or metal to ground, getting a lot of hum.
Powered Toaster
Two Headrush FRFR112 speakers.
Line conditioner on the power.
Is there like a reverse polarity switch somewhere on the Kemper?
Not my latest, but I did put the little Poker Chip on my Gibby. I still think I will leave the Pickguard off.
I like the Gibson knobs better...will have to put a cream tip on the toggle switch too.
Picked up yesterday.
Swag time..
.
I think I have decided to paint the King V repaired Jackson in the same color as my Schecter. Schecter called it Lambo Blue, but after contacting them, it's really BMW Laguna seca blue 448. Should be able to get this in a spray at my local body shop.
Probably can't get it in a Lacquer, so may have to go Acrylic Enamel.
The last one was photoshopped
I decided to just go ahead and strip the King V...no stripper, all by hand and palm sander.
Well not a Guitar, but "Gear" Fishman Aura Spectrum DI
Got the ripped out hole repaired...the right way
