Well, the idea of using a perfectly flat signal from a neutral sounding pickup and then using active filtering in the preamp for miclup modeling is rather old. The Variax guitars did something similar but with piezos. I only wish that would have thought a little further. Using piezo bridges with indivdual hex pickups would have allowed for far greater flexibility. Put a six channel A/D converter into the preamp and transfer the signal digitally to a standarized and SPDIF compatible breakout box. This would even allow MIDI converters to use that signal.
Perhaps this would be a new project for CK

One of the things I think Fishman's doing right is that they're keeping the magnetic pull of their pickups similar to that of those that they're modeling. For the more traditional pickup tone and dynamics that they seem to be after that might be important. Piezo hex pickups probably wouldn't accommodate that.

I am quite sure that CK can completely re-invent the way to pick up the signal from the strings. and even emphasizing the real acoustic sound of the guitar in order to make more meaningful the choice of materials and the skill of the instrument construction.
