Power head Volume

  • Hey fellow userS

I have just upgraded to a power head from an unpowered head with camplifier
Plugging in to a standard 16 ohm 4x12 today and had to drive everything pretty hard to get a
a volume that will work with a loud 3 pc band.
Master vol on 70% and monitor output cranked plus using eq in x slot to lift more!
    Am i doing something wrong.
I would expect it to compete with a 100w head at normal settings.
I'm not deaf (yet) but I play with a loud drummer and a bass player with an ampeg svt and 8x10
    so it needs to compete.
It is loud enough but i didn't think I would have to crank everything to the max!!

    any thoughts?

  • You have an option "Power Amp Boost" in the output section.
Set it higher, between +3 and +6 it will be enough. Now you will probably not go with the Master over 6.

Rig volume can stay at noon this way. No need for extra boost, eq etc. (except for solo if you like)

  • Agreed with the above post. I set my power amp boost at around 7 and then I limit my volume to about 5 or 6. No issues on a larger stage with a normally loud drummer and bass player. I had no problem hearing myself or cutting through. I'm using a custom Mesa 2x12 cab with mesa V30s. They are spec'd to roll off the high end slightly which really works nicely with the powered rack.
