EZDrummer 2 is a fast way to get drums for a song. You can input, or pick a kick pattern, and it will give you available matches in into, verse, etc. sections. You can build the song from those, OR pick a song format (for example A,A,B,A,B,C,BB) and it will generate an entire drum track. You can edit it, if you wish, or just use it as is. Very fast.

I haven't used this extensively, but the Drummer in Logic is supposed to look at another track and kinda lock to it if I understood this right.
I used Logic X for the production of our last album but I don't have a lot of experience with Drummer myself yet.
I need to check this out better myself.

I assume this only works if the master track is a virtual instrument? ie. It wouldn't work with a recorded guitar part?

Yes it does.
I opened an older project of mine with recorded material containing a track of bass guitar, electric, acoustic and voice.
It indeedfollows audio material.

There are several on YT, just search for Logic drummer follow.
An example:

GarageBand and iReal Pro are good iOS options.

+1 to ingolf's tutorial post. I use this feature and it does follow real instruments. Logic plots and follows the transients.
