I'm just beginning to learn how important it is to choose the right cabinet for each of my amp profiles but there don't seem to be many installed from the factory so I'd like to download more from the Rig Exchange. Are there any in particular that users would recommend I try first?

Go for TillS rigs. These are awesome and offer top notch cabs that you can use with other rigs.
You know you can retrieve cabs from rigs as well?
You don't have to store the cabs manually. -
I can't recommend Tills cablab highly enough But that's not free of course. He does have 6 cabs as a teaser for that pack though (search for his thread).
I don't know if his old free cab pack is still available - but that one is not FW3.0 of couse (I mean, not merged / separated cab profiles).
Still, his cablab is the best purchase I've made, period But I'm sure you could assemble your own awesome cab pack with just free merged profiles.

I agree with Michael, but still, choosing TillS cabs and assigning them to different amps' profiles has worked for many users since the beginning of the Kemper history, and for many users it made all the difference, too.
So in spite of all the options with V3, direct and merged profiles, I'd advise to try the free TillS rigs from the RE first. -

Thanks for the recommendations for TillS cabs. I shall start downloading!

OK, I'm struggling here. I cannot find TillS as a forum member, and I cannot find him as an author on the Rig Exchange. I do see his cabinets coming up in searches for rigs. Do I need to download those rigs and individually save the cabinets? Is there not a downloadable pack somewhere?

You need to look for the author Till Schleicher on the RE.
After installing bis rigs you can retrieve his cabs from his rigs without manually installing cabs. -

When you put CAB in focus by pressing the button you can either load cabs that have been stored manually before or you can browse cabs from other rigs (which is what you want to do with TillS rigs).
-
OK, and if I want to save the cabs how do I do that? Can I export favourite cabs to my Mac?
-
Put cab in focus then hit save. Kemper asks you if you want to save the cab or the whole rig.
You cannot export rigs per se at the moment, but the saved cabs are saved with a backup.
When you unrar a backup you'll notice a folder named 'cabs' and they're all in there. -
OK, thanks again Ingolf.

when i try to download from his site it has an "order with obligation to pay"? is this the button to click?

Yes I just did it and it worked.
