Ernie Ball Volume Pedal (as expression) effect on Tone?

So I am aware that the Ernie Ball volume pedals "suck tone" a little bit. My question is, if I use it as an expression pedal, will it still suck any tone?

I've also heard that some pots don't work if used as an expression pedal, the 2 I am considering are:

I use active pickups, but I am not sure if that matters if used as an expression pedal.

No audio passes through an expression pedal. A control voltage is used.

Expression pedals are different than volume pedals - they have a linear response to pedal movements, and most of them have just one tip-ring-sleeve connection jack.

Since you don't already own one of these pedals, I suggest buying an expression pedal, not a volume pedal. Do a forum search for expression pedal, and you will see many well-informed recommendations,
