When I first got my Kemper (when it worked) I had a lot of trouble getting the RM to talk to my Kemper. I think I just did a bunch of restarts and turned the Kemper off and on, and re-installs of RM... It was all trial and error.
In any case, my issue is resolved. The USB port was indeed dead. I sent it back to Sweetwater (cost me $100 in shipping!!) and ended up sending me a new one since the part they needed was on back order.
