When I first got my Kemper (when it worked) I had a lot of trouble getting the RM to talk to my Kemper. I think I just did a bunch of restarts and turned the Kemper off and on, and re-installs of RM... It was all trial and error.

In any case, my issue is resolved. The USB port was indeed dead. I sent it back to Sweetwater (cost me $100 in shipping!!) and ended up sending me a new one since the part they needed was on back order.

Now all is right with the world.

Nope. PC isn't recognizing it either. Doesn't even make the connect/disconnect sound. The KPA is literally invisible to my computer(s).

Is the port just dead, maybe? Can that happen? Shouldn't there be some sort of self-check the Kemper does that would detect an issue like that?

    Hello,

I'm actually having the same issue! I worked late into the night last night organizing Rig Manager and testing profiles. Everything worked fine. This morning I power everything up RM and the Profiler do not see each other at all! Tried different USB cables, different ports, updated Kemper to new firmware....

The Audio/Midi detection on my Mac doesn't see the Kemper either. It was all working flawlessly last night!

Keep me in the loop - if you figure something out, please share. Right now I'm booting up my old PC laptop and gonna put RM on it and see if it detects my KPA... standby...

That link redirects here. I appreciate your time to post, but it's no help. I've de-installed and re-installed about 20-30 times now; every combination of available RM versions with both of each's included drivers. Still, no dice.

Yes, faulty USB cable can be the problem. Although it was on Windows, the cable was working with printer, but not working with Kemper, so check other cable if you have the chance.

    Good luck.

Like I've said; I've tried several USB cables, all 3 of which worked flawlessly on all my other gear(an Akai MPD26, an M-Audio Keystation 88, and a Yamaha Portagrand. The Kemper is the only one they don't work on. I suppose it's possible that all 3 are faulty, but my own reasoning tells me it's gotta be something else. Just for giggles, I tried a FOURTH USB cable before posting; it's not the USB cable. I can guarantee that 100%.

Any other ideas? At this point, I'm almost POSITIVE there's a USB setting that must have gotten changed on the Kemper; either in the "secret" system menu or otherwise. Because even without showing up in RM, it should - at the absolute least - trigger some sort of sound or notification in OSX.

Not yet. It's typically faster to fix things myself with the help of the internet. Otherwise, I email them, wait a few days for a response like, "Have you tried using a different USB cable?" and then I respond, wait a few days, etc., rinse and repeat.

I'd rather Google and ask on forums which are 24/7 first. But if all else fails and literally no one has had this issue, and customer service is my last recourse, then I'll email them.

Nope. Full factory reset didn't do anything.

Anyone? Please, I've wasted hours trying to get this figured out. I bought the Kemper because I enjoyed playing - not tweaking, and certainly not scouring the internet for hours trying to solve technical issues..

I should add that it almost seems like my Mac isn't detecting the Kemper at all; there's no sound when I plug in the USB or disconnect it. Not sure if that means anything...

Only thing I haven't tried is factory resetting my Kemper. There goes all my presets... Here goes nothing...

Seriously, guys - I'm at my wit's end. NOTHING has worked.

RM and my Kemper used to work fine, but as the months have gone by and updates installed on my Mac and Kemper, eventually they just stopped talking.

YES - I'm using a good USB cable and YES it's plugged into the correct square-ish port on the Kemper. YES I'm running the latest version of OSX and YES I'm running the latest version of RM.

I cannot see any driver for RM or the Kemper in the Mac's System>Library>Extensions folder; nor can I find anywhere to download just the driver. The RM installer SAYS that it's installing the driver, but it doesn't say where and it never shows up in the Extensions folder.

I have restarted everything about 20 times with no luck. I'm going insane. Someone PLEASE help :(

    Thread title changed!

And I have no idea how to look for drivers. And no, there's no sound when I plug or unplug the Kemper from the USB port.

*sigh. I guess it's not impossible to do everything with the USB stick, just really frustrating that I can't audition rigs in real time from the web. Maybe that function is broke on my Kemper. I'm all out of ideas.

It's just like my interface a while back; it started to not work every now and again, then after so many updates, it stopped working all together. Maybe the Kemper is the same way. It sucks because literally EVERY other function works perfectly. I don't know why JUST the USB would not be working.

I can't help but to feel a little insulted about the USB cable question (obviously the component [square-ish] port) - but I guess you gotta start with the basics, right? lol And I've used the USB cable with an Akai MPD26 and a number of USB keyboards, all of which work beautifully and immediately.

I've downloaded several versions of the Rig Manager and nothing changes.

I've swapped USB cables, plugged directly into the Mac (and into a hub) and no dice.

What else ya got? I'm all ears.

I have reinstalled RM, restarted my KPA, restarted my Mac, etc etc - But for some reason, RM just refuses to acknowledge my KPA. It used to work fine when I first got it, but after the last few updates (both OSX and Kemper updates), things don't seem to jive anymore.

Is there any sure-fire way to get them to work? I've tried the USB cable with other devices, so I know it's plugged in fine and works. Is there any chance I could have changed a setting to make the USB not talk to the computer?

    Thanks in advance.

    Bump.

Another thing I noticed is that once it starts, I can turn the profiler's volume WAY down and the squeal persists. It's almost like it's a hybrid between audiophonic feedback and signal routing feedback. Like, if I get the feedback, sometimes it's enough to turn the guitar down, start playing something, or kill any additional gain.

It's frustrating because "my sound" requires a TS808 (or equivalent) but when I apply it, even at the most mild settings, the Kemper can't handle it.

Kemper - please tell me (us) you're working on this! *fingers crossed* :)

Hmm. Are you suggesting there's a glitch solved by doing that or that my profile is just flawed and I should find a different one that's not flawed? I don't quite understand what you're getting at...

But that sucks to have technical difficulty when you're trying to show off your mad skills to woo a possible mate :)

Hey there, folks - I have a really annoying problem that I can't figure out.

I'm using my Mesa/Boogie Mark V high-gain profile and I'm using my live rig pedalboard. I'm getting an intolerable high-pitched squeal/feedback that kicks in the SECOND I turn on my compressor or my OD before the kemper, OR if I turn on the OD in the Kemper. I have this problem even with no pedals active and the guitar turned down completely, loop disengaged.

I got a similar problem (not exactly the same) when I was profiling using my Mesa Cab Clone, but hitting the ground lift eliminated it. None of the ground buttons on the Kemper have any effect in this case. And as soon as I turn off any additional gain stages, the problem disappears. I can have the Kempers Tube Screamer on, but if any of the setting are anything more than "0.0," I get the squeal.

I'm really unsure of what could be causing this very unmusical feedback/squeal. It doesn't make sense that I can crank the amp's gain with no issue, but the second I add an OD, it goes bananas. Anyone else have this issue? How did you solve it? I don't believe I had this issue until the most recent update, if that makes any difference...

EDIT: It DOES actually feedback when the amp's gain is turned up, but it will squeal regardless of the output volume. Still very frustrated...

FYI, the 5-band EQ on the Bass Buddy is as follows:

    50Hz
    160Hz
    640Hz
    2.5kHz
    12kHz

I set up a preset that has several EQs in a row to approximate this, but haven't really played too much with it. So the "stomps" are now:

    A: Compressor
    B: Studio EQ page 1 - to adjust 50 & 12k
    C: Studio EQ page 1 - to adjust 160 & 2.5k
D: Graphic EQ page 1 - far right freq adjusts 640

    and the "effects" are now:

X (off): Graphic EQ (see the freqs above
    Mod (off):
    Delay: (off):
Reverb: Large Room (only 6% mix though & 2.4 sec) - so really light

I'm not sure of the exact signal flow through the Bass Buddy - I figure the EQ is likely AFTER the pre, but I don't know enough about the Kemper to know if there's an EQ that you can exactly customize all the freqs, Qs, and gains - but if there's ONE that can do it, the Graphic EQ is probably close (have to use 80 instead of 50 and 10k instead of 12k, but it should be okay). I should also point out that I've not adjusted any gain in the EQ sections - so though they're there, they should be pretty transparent.

So I've replaced the profiles I originally posted with the above changes. Enjoy! Let me know if y'all discover anything cool with them!

I got a chance to play this at NAMM (5 minutes before Victor Wooten jumped on the very Fodera bass I was playing!!) and my bass eventually got one and I borrowed it from him.

There's two available - the one labeled "flat" has no EQ or effects. The regular one, just called "PJB - Bass Buddy" has a compressor on it as well as a little gain ('with teeth,' I call it) and a tiny amount of reverb to give it some breathing room.

The compressor is there because the box itself has a really nice compressor on it; though the Kemper's, admittedly, is not as transparent or clean, but maybe you can fiddle with it and find a really light compressor setting.

    Enjoy, all you low-enders!
