Fender and any name brand will keep their value much better than any other guitar, still I wouldn't spend the money for a custom shop because it's very easy to find an excellent guitar without having to spend that much. Since no two pieces of wood are the same, your best bet is to go from to several shops and try till you find one that feels and sounds good to you. I would bring my KPA to the shop if they don't have one soo you can try it out and know what to expect using familiar gear.
