USB Keyboard - Something changed?

I’ve been using the USB keyboard to enter metadata for a couple years now. I went so far as to add a pull-out keyboard tray to my rack for easy access. I’ve updated a couple times recently and I’m not sure when it changed. It used to be that it worked 90% of the time. On occasion, if I was using the USB port for an update and then plugged the keyboard back in, it wouldn’t work until I restarted the KPA but it did work most of the time.

Now it seems like it DOESN’T work 90% of the time. Sometimes I can get it to work by unplugging the keyboard and plugging it back in. But that doesn’t always work.

To make sure the keyboard itself wasn't at fault, I just switched it out for a Logitech usb keyboard which for the time being seems to work. Maybe the one I had was not compliant to whatever standard the KPA requires? Don't know. FWIW, I'm typing this on the cheaper keyboard which is now connected to my computer's dock so it's probably not a bad cable or connector.
