Saw the thread on using the ozone VST plug in in this context, but can you simply make a profile from any pre-recorded guitar track without that VST plug-in?

Guit,
profiling implies sending a set of test signals to a device and evaluating its response. You don't profile a sound, you profile a device.
It seems you rather have tone-matching in mind -

There are other eq tone match plugins like Voxengo (cheaper) but Ozone is one of the best for DAW.
Eq tone match is one of several components of the unique profiling technique.
Profiling also captures the dynamics of the amp rig with gain structure, compression, attack etc.
The eq match of pre-recorded guitar tracks are best captured by placing an eq match plugin like Ozone in the signal chain.
GUITAR -> KPA -> AMP -> CAB -> MIC -> DAW -> PLUGIN -> KPA Return.
It's described in this thread that you mentioned, with a guide link.
classic metal tones done with EQ matching
Since the Kemper already have eq tone match built in when profiling, perhaps a firmware update could add a function like Ozone to capture the eq tone match of pre-recorded guitar tracks and merge it with pre-made profiles inside the KPA.
Who knows. -
Think that could be a bit over optimistic happykemper,but maybe one day.

It would be fun to do it without a plugin, but such a feature is really not that important.
It works fine this way.
