Managing Tone for Audience - From Studio Monitors to Regular Speakers Dilemma.

  • It was an easy solution for me because it was a simple math formula. Sometimes the easiest path is the right path. ;) Until I get full band mix tracks, I am pretty much stuck here for now unless I do a virtual collab.

  • Does a comparable commercial mix sound like your mix in your monitors, and equally bad in the other speakers? If not, make your mix sound more like the commercial mix in your monitors, and it will likely translate better to other speakers.

Commercial mixes sound "all over the place" with both speaker types. Not surprised at that since mixes are done very differently. But swapping back and forth from monitors to speakers helps a lot to give me some sort of middle ground.

My desktop speaker system is a Planar surround system. And I have an old Realistic system on my aux line outs with 2x10 pairs of loudspeakers to compare the mixes, and the JBL306's for monitors. As long as I get all 3 systems to sound good then I know I am... on the right track. ;)
