I really liked how Stephen (no longer a registered user) profiled the distorted tone of the Rockman Sustainor. I think he really got close with the effects as well so I just used his effect settings with my profile of the Clean 2 Channel profile I made with my Rockman Sustainor. I used a Custom Shop '60 Fender Stratocaster in the Number 2 position for the profiling for a real bright 80's pop spanky tone like Wang Chung, The Fixx, etc. Adjust to your preference and enjoy the 80's all you fully grown male individuals™

By the way ... I'm almost a fan of Wang Chung ... it seems you too. Unfortunately they made not so much LP's (or am I wrong ?).

Thanks for the profile but FWIW THE FIXX didn't have a Rockman sound at all!
Jamie West- Oram, whom I admire very much as a guitar player, used a JCM 800 slightly the point of breakup with an MXR compressor to smoothen up the breakup. Plus some chorus and delay/reverb, of course).

Interesting .... I love that FIXX guitar sound.
Can I setup this with the KPA effects? How? -

Can I setup this with the KPA effects? How?Hey!
1. Take a moderate gain era Marshall (JCM 800 is what JWO used, but plexi should be ok as well).
2. Place a compressor in one of the stomp slots. Compressor in Fixx sounds is clearly audible, so turn up the gain and lower the threshold.
3. Strat in position 2 is mandatory.I'll try to build a patch when I find the time.

you should come to see me play One Thing Leads To Another with this preset and my Celmo Sardine Compressor (thanks to fully grown BRUNO in place of Valley People Dynamite) in front of the Kemper, it's not HIS set-up but it sounds so good. The MXR Compressors are great, I use old Dynacomps and I recently got the Whirlwind Red Box (Dynacomp Clone) that I like even better. Still, I find those older Dyncomps a bit muddy when used at extreme squish settings. A lot of those tones were about less bass and more glassy high end that cuts thru. many fully grown men™ would agree. I did get a one of those 1W JCM800 Marshalls yesterday so I will try a bit with that amp, compressor and a DC-2 Chorus.

Hehe, I'm looking forward to your profile, then.
I'm waiting for a Marshall 6101 in mint condition to arrive soon. This one will do the trick as well.Regarding the Fixx: Finally they'll be playing in Germany in October. First proper tour since the ink tour 1991.
They also have a great new album out called 'Beautiful Friction'. Best thing is I'll be seeing them TWICE on their German

have you ever tried these 1W Marshalls? I was skeptical but they sound very good IMO. I have the 1W JMP because I am really partial to NMV amplifiers but the 1W JCM really surprised me, reminds me exactly of my old 2204 and 2203.

No, not yet. I'm absolutely sure that the whole 50th anniversary series delivers.
But for the price they're too low wattage for my taste.

Bring on the profile!I have to figure out a way to profile amplifiers/speaker cabinets better because in my situation, I don't have a way to keep the amplifier/cabinet isolated without hearing it in the room and I don't like profiling a loaded tube amplifier, not the same and the result varies from load box to load box. Preamp DI is not a problem though

Trial and error, then.

After all this thread shows that many Fully Grown Men Individuals TM have strong feelings for the Fixx.

This is not a surprise ... great voice, good songs and great guitars
Yes a rig with a good FIXX tone would be very welcomed !
Where are they playing in October? -
They're playing several German dates. I'll be seeing them in Dortmund, and Hamburg, of course. Maybe in Cologne, too.
