I don't know if I should call this clipping because the waveform looks different. (See what I mean on Flickr)
Maybe I profiled too hot. My signal chain is a s follows: Kemper – spdif out – Digidesign 192i/o spdif in – Pro Tools 8 HD session @ 48kHz 24bit – Clock set to Kemper on spdif input of the 192i/o – H/W Buffer Size set to 1024 samples. The meters in Pro Tools are all around -6dB. Anybody nows how to avoid that crackling noise?
SPDIF recording in Pro Tools clipping(?)

44.1 kHz only for the spdif, 48 is not supported, that's why is crackling
-
Thanks a lot – checked it now @44,1kHz but no difference at all ... crackle, crackle. Cabling seems to be O.k. Maybe the input sens, but I have to figure out how to change that first, I own my KPA since saturday, so, a little more reading might help
-
Plug your cans in the KPA directly, if you have no crackles then is the DAW. Try modifying the sample size
-
Hmm, over the headphones it is flawless. Following your advice I maxed out the H/W Buffer, but had no luck with that either. Usually I use AES/EBU for digital connections (Neve 1073DPD) and no problems there, spdif is a first for me, so maybe I've set something wrong.
-
Try reducing the sample size, not increasing
-
either way it doesn't has a positive effect – I started at 256 samples (the absolute minimum it gave me @44.1)
-
Is the cable ok? Have you tried with another?

????
Seriously?
When I get snap, crackle and pop, I increase buffer length/size and it seems to go away... -
This is my general procedure regarding crackling noise on KPA's SPDIF out:
Set 44.1 as sample rate both on your DAW and your soundcard.
Set "SPDIF" (not "internal" or other) as sync source on your soundcard.
Install KPA firmware 1.5.0If that does not work, increase the buffer size (number of samples) on your DAW and/or try different SPDIF cables.
Hope that helps.

BTW I have OS 1.1.1.7641B public beta istalled, maybe there is the culprit?
-
SPDif used to work fine with me, even on 1.1.1 7641B and below.
But you could try updating anyways...
-
I'm sorry to quote myself, but I just typed this a moment ago (post #10):
(...) Install KPA firmware 1.5.0 (...)
I had crackling noise on SPDIF out until I installed that firmware version.

Thanks a lot almogaver, 1.5 seems to have solved the issue. (I wasn't aware of that they'd put out an update just today.) I could record at a 256 samples buffer with no crackles.
