The tones on Stalingrad are killer. What was your amp setup?

"Here’s a little-known secret: I recorded the whole album with a Kemper Profiling Amplifier [which provides a range of emulations and lets players create a sonic profile of their own amp]. I came across it a year ago, and when we started working on the album, we really put it to the test. We had my regular setup, and we fed everything into the Kemper. We A/B’d the sounds, and they were identical. It’s the same sound, just coming out of a different box.

So I used my handful of old Marshall, Randall and EVH amps, along with my main Wizard amp, and we fed them all into the Kemper amp. Then we used the Kemper to fire them back. When Stalingrad first came out, I didn’t tell anyone that I used a Kemper, because you know how people are. They’d be like, “Oh, I can hear that it’s not a real Marshall.” But now that the album is out and people like the tone, I’m telling everyone about the Kemper. "

  • those guitars do sound awesome on that album.. perhaps wolf would like to join in with the K.P.A forum spirit and upload his profiles to the rig exchange LOL!!!!!!

  • This article is absolutely great, thanks for sharing it!

The guitars on the Stalingrad album do sound awesome! Wolf always had a killer guitar tone on his recordings... I remember being floored by the guitar sound when I first heard Fast as a Shark when I was a kid!

So there we have it: the KPA is THAT good!

I was in a pro shop in the south of germany last week to check some amps and they did not want to even
discuss the kemper i brought with me. and i said, wait another year and you will see the KPA on the big stages.
and here we go! curious whether Hoffman uses the lunchbox live, too.

My occupation: showing teenagers the many hidden secrets of the A-minor chord on the guitar.

  • Awesome read!

My old band (guitarist) mate in Dallas saw Accept a month or so ago live and hung with Wolf after the show.

Wolf used the KPA the whole show, the other guitarist had an Engl stack.

I asked if he could tell out front, he said he wasn't sure that Wolf didn't have a hidden amp until he asked him afterward... Wolf told him the Wizard amp on stage was back up for the Kemper!

  • Thank you very much for the post.
Wolf is an outstanding guitarist and songwriter. He has an an unique, awesome guitarsound and even when you let him play through a pig-nose you could hear it. His sound is pure rock and metal in one.
Wanted to catch the sound in the kemper but don´t even come close. I read an article a few years ago he described his sound as a "cow that vomits", for the high amount of mids if i remember correctly. ACCEPT
