Output to FRFR from KPA or Audio Interface?

  • For studio use, I am wondering which scenario is better;

    1. KPA -----Digital Out-----> Audio Interface -----------> FRFR Speaker(s)

    2. KPA -----Digital Out-----> Audio Interface------------>DAW

    |--------->FRFR

    In scenario 1, the powered FRFR Speakers are connected to Audio Interface.
    In scenario 2, the powered FRFR speakers are connected to the KPA.

    Not sure it matter other than the Audio Interface converters may be superior to the KPA converters.

    Anyone have any thoughts, comments?

  • I always choose scenario 2 as it gives me more flexibility when monitoring myself in the room while recording.

    Plus: I doubt anybody can make out any substantial differences between converters in D/A conversion which seem to be far less critical than A/D conversion (which has to happen in the KPA anyway).

  • I actually do both.

    My CLR has 2 inputs, one direct from the KPA. Very handy if you just want to play without a DAW/audio interface hassle.
    And one return from my audio interface/DAW. Handy when i'm recording.

    If you only have one input then i gues the interface gives you more options.
