Yes, the MP3 and Kemper could be recorded in real-time into the Steinberg.

    From the Manual:
The RETURN and ALTERNATIVE input can be used as the stereo loop returns for external stereophonic equipment by selecting “Loop Stereo” in the EFFECTS section (X or MOD). Both the RETURN and the ALTERNATIVE input can also be used as aux- iliary inputs. You could, for instance, use this feature to mix in music from your Mp3 player to the sound of the PROFILER to play along. You will find the corresponding mix controls in the Output Stage.

Awesome, thanks. I remember reading that at one point but it's great to know that both will go out to the Steinberg in one 'package.' Saves me from having to merge the files in the DAW.

Okay, so that narrows it down. I guess my only issue is that I was hoping to play along with a backing track running through the Kemper, and just record as I play. Does that backing track get sent out of the Kemper along with the guitar, or just the guitar?

I have Reaper and Audacity, and can find my way around both fairly decently, including lining up two tracks and merging them. It's just a matter figuring out how to wire everything up. I guess there's gotta be a YouTube video I can dig up. Everything's on YouTube!

Nothing too serious here, just me, my guitar and an MP3 backing track. When I had a Fender Mustang it was easy because it had USB, but I'm not in Kansas anymore, as the saying goes.

Should I mic up my CLR (when it arrives), feeding the mic into a Steinberg UR22 interface and then into my PC (Reaper or Audacity)?

    Or

Could I hook up the MP3 player to the Kemper, listen through headphones, and hook up the Kemper to the Steinberg, which would then connect into my computer. Would this even work? Assuming yes, which of the two methods will give me better recorded sound?

Based on Ingolf's experience with the DXR10's and preference for them "on a lot of stages" I am surprised you reached the conclusion that they would not be suitable to jam with friends - what led you to think that?

I know what you mean; but for me, jamming with friends usually means me and a buddy, two guitars plus an mp3 backing track, maybe 4 times a year. Just riffing -- no drums or bass. I'm just a hobbyist, so the CLR has way more juice than I'll need for a very long time. I play by myself 99% of the time, #1 priority is a flat response for the Kemper rigs.

I actually just ordered the active Atomic sight unseen. I'm going off its reputation on this forum and videos I've seen. It's enough to convince me that's the best option. Near-field monitors would be great but they have limited applications; I know eventually I'll want to transport my speaker to jam with friends and near-fields just won't work for that, and I can't justify getting both.

I just sent Atomic an email about the active CLR cab and 10 minutes later I got a response! You don't see that every day. That is a huge bonus to know they are responsive to customers.

I'm on the list for a cab. Thank you all again for all the suggestions and advice! This forum is a tremendous resource!

Well, it's not a bloodbath and if you think so you totally got me wrong.
I tried to do a comparison as differentiated aspossible.
My conclusion was, and still is (backed by continuous experience with both cabs) that the CLR wins for clarity and 'neutral-ness'.
Still, and I still stand by it, the DXR 10 is a great cab with a lot to offer, and I prefer it over the CLR for its smaller footprint on a lot of stages most of the time.
The best speaker recommendation in the price league BELOW the CLR is the DXR 10.

Yes, I was thinking solely on the criterion of neutralness -- the CLR appeared the clear winner in that respect.

Well, Yamaha MSP7s are backordered until January according to the Canadian dealers I spoke with, so now I have a perfect excuse to reconsider non-near-field monitor options:

Apart from the Atomic CLR, can someone please recommend some other FRFR speaker(s) under $1000? I just watched Ingolf's YouTube comparison of the CLR vs. the Yamaha DXR10 and it was a bloodbath! CLR wins by a mile!

I will also be trying a bunch of near-fields per Don's advice. Honestly, I am so over-protective of my Kemper that to this point I have been absolutely unwilling to take it out of my apartment!

Sound quality is definitely my top priority -- I want the exact tone of the KPA profiles coming out of the speaker, so monitors for now, but a CLR is definitely in my future. When I can finally move into a house that will be my housewarming gift to myself!

'Tis indeed! I knew I'd end up getting another one at some point, may as well do it in one shot. Now I need to get the tape measure out so I can ensure a perfect isosceles triangle between my head and the two monitors.

Stereo can make sounds like reverb and delay sound much bigger,.

It is not necessary at all, but it does sound very good.

Understood, thanks. I think I'll start with one and then add another later on. I have a feeling I'm going to be blown away by this set up. The Kemper sounds like CD quality when I'm playing through headphones; it should be awesome blasting through a speaker.
