If you have great direct profile of your fav amps is the axe still worth getting? Thinking should i save for the axe or just get a vh2 amp.
Are the kemper direct profiles in general as good as the axe fx?
thanks

There is a difference with using one compared to normal analogue clean boost/overdrive. I use a dickinson d1
other pedals i have sound under a blanket compared to it. It sounds amazing. I A/B the shit out of it with normal pedals and the kemper overdrives and its the best. I also highly recommend going into a tube amp power section aswell for best feel.
using this method i have got the kemper to sound and FEEL as close to an amp as possible.
when you profile the kemper gets you 95% and this method gives you another 3%. There is a reason lots of pros use the fractal into tube amp return live, and kemper is the same. But you have to try for yourself because everyone hears and feels different. For me best result is
tube pedal>kemper di profile>tube power section>suhr reactive load>two notes cab ir loader>york audio irs
exactly right, it does not always make it sound better but its just more options. So many times i find the amp settings i like but with cab i dont, Then york have some which are cool but only 2 with 57 and 421 which might be boomy or too bright but when mixing the single microphones you can make it just right
Huge improvement by running a two notes cab after the kemper. Having the ability to mix two irs together is amazing. I wish the kemper could handle more irs but if they have not done it by now it must be limited with its hardware
Anyone tried these profiles?
thankyou, clarity works well and i did lower the gain a touch, i also found running the kemper into the power section of the amp add alot of body and feel.
hey all,
so i have been trying to get my kemper to sound like the vh4. The direct profile of the amp sounds very close to the real amp but is a little more compressed while the real amp is more open sounding with more air. Any recommendation on what parameters to try on the kemper to reduce compression and add air to the profile?
thanks
ok looking for preamp only profiles. love the feel and sound of running the kemper through a tube power stage, have been using direct profiles but would be great to not have double the power section. I know game of tones did have some but does anyone else make them
thanks
thanks man, i felt like i was pissing in the wind with this thread for a while. I have Ownhammer, ML, and York all great was just thinking if the Choptones ones are any good. I love their direct profiles so thats why i had to ask about the irs
cheers
hey all,
can anyone who has bought choptones cab packs say how they stack up compared to ownhammer, york ect?
Display MoreI can't really answer your questions directly, but I can say that the tones are superior on the Fm3. Both pure amp tones and wet tones.
The feel is identical, great in both devices.
The problem with Kemper is that the majority of the profiles (even from well known vendors) are bad. But even the best ones don't compare to the models on the Fm3 imo. Plus - as I mentioned at my first post- you can tweak them without problems, no cocked wah -which btw I spoke about it before Rubea lol ? - no awful noise gate to destroy the tone, actually great stomps etc.
Kemper is still great though. I could make a thousand records with it and noone would be able to tell the difference in a blind test in a mix. It's just that with the Fm3 the tones are more "real" outside the mix, more fun and without the problems I mentioned.
Overall I would say that the Fm3 is 10-15% better for the things I want to do.
Really helpful, thanks man
generally speaking, if you get a friedman hbe profile up on the fm3 and run a york audio ir, would it sound the same as a di profile of the same amp (settings) and use same cab ir on the kemper.
Reason i ask is i have some great di profiles with the amp settings i love. Aside from all the extra options the fractal stuff gives, is there a difference in feel/sound on the fm3.
do i need to buy one?
ohhh, i see now its the Lars Luettge ir thats doing it for me.
They're all tweaks of others' Rigs.
Some of the better-known authors include:
Lars Luettge, Pietro Coppola, Michael Britt, Tony Mc Kenzie, David G Burns, Thumas, Mats Nermark, Amp Factory, Top Jimi, Kosten, Deadlight Studio, ToneCrate, BulldogXTRM, Kemper Amps, Soundside, R.U. Sirius and RM Pacheo.
I have spent 3 years buying commercial profiles and experimenting with third party irs and then by chance last night i think to check rig exchange for a vh4 profile.
RickyStorti profiles destroy all the tweaking and effort ive put in to my profiles. They are amazing
check him out
I thought you were going to say the FM3,
Is there any way to export an ir file from a merged profile and convert back to wav. I have a killer mess ir but is on a merged profile and so don’t have the original. I’m running the kemper into tube amp fx return then into two notes cab.
New discovery! (For me)
Kemper>tube amp return>townotes cab>monitors=wow
Have found using direct profiles this works great. Yes you are doubling the power section but the feel is great and using the two notes cab you can mix two irs together. Useing the pres and deep if you have it to eq to profile rather then treb and pres on kemper. The profiles are much more alive and full/rich sounding. Im going into a friedman runt with el84s. I noticed alot of guys i like, brendon small, paul gilbert using non tube preamps into good poweramps and made me think there must be somthing to it and i can see
york audio has a great mesa 2/12 pack for $1 thats good for higher gain profiles
I was told the same with studio profiles but the kemper is hard to fine tune to your taste. You might find a profile with good amp setting but the cab and mike choice just dont work for you.
Make sure you find direct or merged profiles to change the cab and look for free ir testers from ml sound lab, york audio or ownhammer to start
Which would be closer to putting an eq into the fx loop of an amp?
Is the eq on front pannel (bass, mid, treb) when set in post eq after the amp before the cab and the effects block is after the cab block?
