I think Celestion calls the F12 a "full range, live response" speaker as opposed to pure FRFR (the way a PA speaker would be), but it's not clear to me what the real difference between this and an advertised FRFR is.

For example, the Celestion F12 specs are a range of 60hz to 20,000hz. The Mission Gemini 2 cab (an FRFR powered cab) is 57hz to 20,000hz. The Kemper Kone, interestingly, is 50hz to 10,000 hz (it's worth noting electric guitar has a practical top frequency of about 1,400hz - high e string at 25th fret. this doesn't count harmonics).

I would say the Celestion is "FRFR" when speaking of speakers for modeling or profiling rigs ... I think Celestion says "live response" to emphasize the "amp in the room" quality.

I assume you’re using that cab and this F200 with cab sim on? How is it?

yes - Im using the F12's with the cab sim on -- sounds great, especially the MBritt profiles. Everything from a Deluxe Reverb to a Marshall Silver Jubilee. I've recently started checking out the Kemper Kone imprints, and while very noticeable as you change them, not convinced they sound better than the cab sims in the profiles (they may sound much better through a Kone).

I've tried going through the 83 pages of this thread but haven't seen the answer to this question -- do the imprints only work with a Kone? I have Celestions F200-X12's, which I understood were essentially the Kone's -- will imprints work with these, or must one use a Kone or a Kabinet?

I bought a PowerStation to use as an attenuator (actually, it's more of a re-amper) on my Dr. Z amps, and it was fantastic. When I got my Kemper Rack, I now use it as my power amp into my monitor (was using a 2x12 with Celestion F12-X200, now a 1x12 with the Celestion) and it's equally fantastic. I cannot detect any color added by the 6L6's ... I'm sure on a spectrum analyzer it would show up compared to a Class D, but for my environments I'd defy anyone to hear the difference. The PowerStation is expensive, but given it's various uses, it's really worth it -- particularly if you even need tube amp attenuation. And its 50w of tube power -- it's LOUD, but can also whisper without losing tone.

With the Thiele 1x12 its makes a nice, portable kit. The PowerStation is in the rack with the Kemper and a power supply (6U rack). I also got a back panel from BTPA that let's me have quick, easy connections out the back of the rack.

So ran straight in to the Kemper Rack - unplugged the Remote - not outboard effects, no wireless, just guitar-->cable-->Kemper. That "distortion" is still there. Tried every electric I own, no difference. Tried high pass and low pass filters. Odd -- not a deal breaker since I do live work with this rig, and I imagine few others would hear it unless I pointed it out - but it's definitely there. But if I were recording this would be a big deal.

I searched the forum and didn't really find anything on this. I've got a Kemper Rack (unpowered), current OS, current Rig Manager version, running into a Fryette PowerStation and then to a 2x12 with Celestion F12-X200's.

When I play a "crunchy" profile (like a MBritt EL84 crunch) i get this bit of distortion that sound somewhat "digital" or clipping (not in the good way). My input is not "red," and messed about with Clean Sense and Distortion Sense to no avail. I'm not running anything in the loop, no external effects pedals. Have two Mission pedals (1 wah, 1 morphing).

Here's a clip from tonight -- the sound I'm talking about is just "behind" the main tone. Hoping for any thoughts. It does this equally (as far as I can hear) regardless of guitar, pickups, etc. On pure clean rigs I don't hear it, and if it's on the full distortion rigs (Marshall 800, '69 50w, etc.) I can't hear it over the main distortion.

I'd appreciate any thoughts. FWIW, I just watched a ToneJunkie YouTube clip on using the Clean and Distortion Sense, and it seemed like HW may be having that same sound (he apparently didn't mind it or didn't hear it).

Edited to add: it is most prominent on the G string from open up to maybe D or so ... in the clip below, to my ears, this "clipping" diminishes when I'm on the B string at the 7-9 frets. This made me think EQ, but adjusting the BMT and Presence controls on the Rig didn't seem to affect this "clipping" tone.

Thanks for the advice Sean -- I'll try tightening up the tension. This is happening in my music room, fairly low volume during practice by myself (Covid has killed band rehearsal for the time being). Hard to imaging I'm getting sufficient vibration to move the value of the pedal, but who knows.

And thanks, Luntho. I had searched the forum and didn't see that thread. The thread was not very encouraging, was it? Kemper seemed to think it was "normal" behavior and that the Profiler was just "sensitive" to ambient fluctuations in cable resistance. Interesting interpretation.

I think I'll probably go to "bypass at toe" and reduce the calibration sweep to see if that works.

    Thanks,

    Greg

On my Rack (current OS) and remote, I have a Mission expression pedal dedicated to wah. I get this odd, totally random sonic event where, regardless of the rig I'm using, i'll get a momentary tone change that sounds like the wah in toe-down mode (high treble tone). It last a second or two, then returns to normal. I've calibrated the pedal several times, it's set to bypass at stop. I've check the cables/plugs. It sounds great when used, but this random sonic event is annoying.

    Any thoughts?

thought I'd follow up -- my flash drive was mis-formatted, hence the reason the Rack would not recognize it. Not sure how that happened since it's the same flash drive I used before ... but I have a MacBook and maybe it reformatted when I downloaded the new OS.

Anyway, seems it was pilot error ... need to be 100% sure you format any usb drive in FAT32.

And be sure to have Rig Exchange turned on in Rig Manager so your are "logged in" to Kemper so that Rig Manager will handle software updates of itself and the Profiler OS.

    Greg

Thanks for the update. I was logged into the Kemper site, but had not activated Rig Exchange in the Rig Manager. Failing to do that made Rig Manager not get the download. Once I activated Rig Exchange and provided my login credentials, Rig Manager worked fine. I think the clarification is that "logging in" on Rig Manager means checking the Rig Exchange option in Preferences and providing your credentials (or make Rig Exchange a default rather than an option).

With respect to the USB option -- my Rack would not recognize the flash drive (i.e., would not format it or see it). In hindsight, that may be because I have the rear USB plugged in via a rear interface panel (with "permanent" connections between the Rack and the panel so it's easier to make connection to my rack case during live setup), so I have a USB cable always available for my laptop. I have performed two prior OS updates using the same flash drive, so it generally has worked ... I suppose the Rack won't recognize both USB ports at the same time? I did unplug the USB cable from my MacBook during one try, but did not unplug the cable from the rear USB port on the Rack.

    Thanks for the follow up.

    Greg

well, answered my own question. Apparently you have to enable Rig Exchange in Rig Manager or it never downloads the software. I had not enable that because candidly I wasn't interested in Rig Exchange at this point (I use the Rack almost exclusively for live work, and I've purchased the small lot of profiles I wanted (Britt and Dr Z) and have found "my rigs" for what I need -- didn't want to go down the rabbit hole of auditioning 100's or 1000's of other rigs).

Also, it appears the Rack must be in Tuner mode or it won't update (Browser or Performance modes don't work). Or, at least it wouldn't update for me outside of Tuner mode.

It's convenient to update software all via Rig Manager -- but there appears to be an absolute absence of instructions or directions in Rig Manager or on the Kemper download site (in fact, the update instructions for the latest OS say to use the flash drive method - which doesn't seem to work now, at least for me).

Hi Guys -- hoping for some insight. Trying to update my Rack Profiler to OS 7.3.2 (current 7.2.2). Rig Manager 3.0.120 running on a MacBook (iOS 10.14 Mojave). Things have been running fine, but now trying to update the OS and Rig Manager says the Profiler needs and update -- i say ok and nothing happens. It says it will go look for the software and will take a few minutes. Have tried several times and left the MacBook alone for 20 minutes and nothing. All I have now is Rig Manager showing me and exclamation point (!) on my profiler with "needs update" in the bottom left of the screen (see screenshot below). I've updated the Rack Profiler before using the USB flash drive method.

    Help! thanks,

    Greg

I'm using the Kemper Rack with a Fryette PowerStation to a 2x12 with a pair of Celestion F12-X200 in it (very similar to the Kone). It sounds fabulous, quiet as a church mouse, and can get LOUD.

I'd look around your space for sources of RFI/EMI -- fluorescent bulbs, wall dimmer switches, computers. If you put your cell phone on top of your rack that can also be a source of interference.
