Does size matters (Tonewise) for live :)

  • Hi!

I was browsing the rig exchange and found some really great plexi like profiles, just could not stop playing. (Burgera plexi profiles by Steve Senes).

They are not as big as some MBritt profiles, but I also tried some C Kemper or Kemper amps profiles and they do not sound big at all.

So for those who play live at high volumes, what do you think. Body or tone in a live mix?

If you could try those RE profiles and give me your opinion that would be really great.

    Thanks.

  • Big is not always better. Its about how it fits in the mix, which really is band specific. In other words if you are a 2 piece ( A La Royal Blood, Black Keys) you need to fill out the sound.

If you play with Alice Cooper ( who currently has 3 guitarists plus bass) then you need to find your own narrow sonic space.

In general I tend to find volume adds "size" hence why many people love MBritt profiles as they tend to be a bit dark and underwelming at bedroom volumes but come alive at gig volumes.

    So for me, its tone.
