maybe there's something wrong with MIDI input and its processing inside the Profiler?

Of course I'm not the right person to answer that. I just had 1 report recently from an FCB+KPA user, who said :
"The only thing I've noticed, that the first switch action after powering up to another sound with the FCB takes somewhat 1 second. All following switch actions I can do during songs without noticeable delay."
To me that sounds like the Profiler might need quite some time to load and initialize certain profiles, and during that time incoming MIDI is just buffered and gets processed once the initialization workload is over.
Very similar to reports I had in the past about for instance the Vetta II amp: UnO firmware introduced the possibility to send effect CCs along with the patch select message. The Vetta II required a delay of something like 100ms between patch select and effect activation messages - else the effects were not correctly initialized (apparently the Vetta didn't buffer incoming MIDI during patch initialization, just ignored it).

    3. The MIDI foot controller doesn't send the MIDI commands with near zero latency.

[...] The rest would be subject to some more research.

I happen to have done that part of the "research" a few years ago - when I designed the Gordius controllers and worked on bringing the latency down to the level of the FCB1010 latency. Test setup: mike an FCB1010 connected through MIDI to a PC, click a footswitch which triggers a Note on a virtual synth, record the button click on the left channel, virtual synth output on the right channel, use Audacity to measure the delay between foot click and synth sound. If I remember correctly total delay was around 5ms, average delay between foot click and MIDI OUT was 1 to 2 ms, transmission of 1 CC message takes 0.8 ms.

Are you still able to ship the uno4kemper chips while you move? I'm planning on ordering one very soon and would need it as quickly as it will ship.

Please place urgent UnO4Kemper orders before the end of this week. Next week might be a week of "interrupted service", a few days with no internet access, limited time to respond to emails, etc.

The FCB can also be modded, cheaply and easily, to use a single cable

Let me add to this that I plan to provide a kit to easily create a single-cable solution with the FCB1010 + UnO4Kemper chip. The kit will contain a small replacement board which modifies the 2 MIDI connectors of the FCB1010 into one 7-pins connector which carries power and 2-way MIDI. One 7-pins MIDI cable. And at the other side you will have a small converter box which again goes from one 7-pins connector to two 5-pins MIDI connectors plus a power input jack.

As you can see the box will not have the same high quality as the metal ones made by Multivir, which I noticed earlier on in this thread :
Gordius Little Giant - Two way communication & power in one cable

I have everything in stock to create those kits, but it will still take a month or so before I offer these for sale, because I'm about to move to a new place. Packing everything at this very moment, and it will take a few weeks before I can unpack all boxes and get organized on my new spot. I'll leave a short message on this forum once I'm settled and ready to ship stuff.

So contact the Uno4kemper people and ask them some question.

I already answered that question through email to the OP on Jan. 02

    Hi,

if your settings are not retained, the eeprom which stores these
settings is defective. It's a cheap component but you will need to
bring your FCB1010 to a repair center to have it replaced.

    regards,

    ------------------------------------

the FCB1010 just sends a simple CtrlChange message to select slots in performance mode (or a simple ProgChange message in browse mode), with a < 1ms latency. So if there is a noticeable delay in sound switching, this delay is introduced in the Profiler, and can only be solved in the Profiler firmware. Nothing to do with the used foot controller I'm afraid. (btw these messages are sent on switch press, not on switch release).

    Hi,

every now and then there seems to be confusion between the "UnO" firmware and the "UnO4Kemper" firmware. A few people have bought the UnO firmware, thinking they were going to receive an UnO4Kemper chip. Result is obvious disappointment, and in some cases the need to express that disappointment in a rather unpleasant way. I do agree that the naming of those firmware releases is not helpful to avoid confusion. Therefore I'd like to add this note here on the forum to emphasize there are 2 different firmware versions around :

    * "UnO" firmware is based on the original Behringer firmware, but adds stompbox mode and other stuff. It was released somewhere in 2006, and can be ordered at http://www.ossandust.be
    * "Uno4Kemper" firmware is created from scratch to turn the FCB1010 into a dedicated KPA controller. It was released earlier this year, in cooperation with Kemper, and has as main purpose to fill the gap until "the real thing" comes along. You know what I mean. The UnO4Kemper firmware (and optionally some dedicated glow-in-the-dark stickers designed and manufactured by forum member Labrat) can be ordered at http://www.uno4kemper.com

I have removed a cross link from uno4kemper.com to ossandust.be, and added a specific warning for Kemper users on the ossandust.be website. Along with this forum message, I hope I have done all I could to avoid any further mistakes and frustrations. Happy Kemping to all of you!
