    Hi all,

I just got myself a Yamaha DXR10 which I am rather excited about.

But having never used a system like this, I am not really sure how to set it up.

I used a regular old guitar cable to go from the Monitor Out to the 1/4" in on the Back of the DXR10 but I'm getting a lot of noise.
The noise is not the hiss from the DXR10 (although that's pretty bad in itself). The noise is coming from the Kemper - I know this because it goes away if I unplug it from the DXR10.

It's hard to describe the sound - it's quite loud and a bit crackly, and sometimes there is a rising and falling hiss (like a slow Phaser acting on the hum from a Strat or something like that).
It's loud enough as to make the Monitor Out unusable with the DXR10.

I tried 2 different guitar cables and both had the same problem.

So today I purchased an XLR cable and connected to the DXR10 using the Main Out - problem solved. This setup is nice and quiet.

I could continue to use the Main Out with the XLR, but I'd really like to get the Monitor Out working correctly.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks!

PS - I own the powered Rack version. I noticed that when using the Monitor Out to the DXR10, the Power Amp Boost in the Output menu has an effect when I raise or lower it. Is this supposed to work this way? I am not using the power amp - the DXR is powered, so why would it have any effect? Could this be the reason for the noise....the power amp is adding noise to the Monitor Out?

I am new to this and I haven't explored all the Output options....maybe I have it set up incorrectly.

Have you checked if the User Name in both the Profiler and RM match exactly?

Good thought! I had not checked that.

My user name in the RM is my email.

When I go to System>Edit Owner on the profiler, the 'Owners Name' is Calaban, but the 'Device Name' is MyProfiler.

You think I need to change something? Which one...Owner's Name or Device Name?

Ingolf were you able to reproduce the same problem?

I heard from Burkhard who said he was not able to reproduce it. He suggested that I update my software to v2.6 which I have done, but the problem persists.

If anyone else could try it it would be helpful.

-Add a rig to your Favorites using the KPA interface
-Remove the rig from Favorites via the Rig Manager

If it behaves like mine, the rig should still be in your Favorites on the KPA, but not listed as a Favorite in the Rig Manager.

Ok....I think I may have discovered a bug.

Earlier I removed my favorites with the Rig Manager, but they remained as favorites on the KPA itself.

I have found that by adding them back as favorites in the Rig Manager (by checking the favorite box in the Inspector pane - even though they are already in my favorites on my KPA) and then immediately unchecking the favorite box again in the Rig Manager, they will be removed as favorites in both the Rig Manager and the KPA (rather than just the RM like earlier.

It seems that you can add and remove favorites using the Rig Manager, but the Rig Manager cannot remove favorites that were 'favorited' within the KPA itself. This does not seem to be the way it should work.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

I have sent a note to Kemper.

    Hi Cal

RM is like a database and can organise not only you KPA rigs but rigs on your computer. if you look right at the bottom left hand side you should see your KPA with the amount of rigs on listed. Now click that and organise the rigs from there this will sort the rigs on the KPA. If the KPA is not selected then you are organising a database on your PC which can then be accessed by the KPA aswell. If you double click a profile that's not in the KPA it will load it up so you can preview it. If you like it then press store this will then store it to the KPA, this I find handy as I can have millions of profiles ready at my finger tip in the studio and have none stored on the KPA. Hope this helps ya buddy :)

Thanks for getting back to me Raoul.

I think I understand what you are saying and I thought I was doing it correctly.

When I was trying to edit my favorites, I selected "MyProfiler" from the left hand pane. Only the profiles that are stored on my KPA were listed. I then sorted the list so all my favorites were at the top. After that I 'un-favorited' them, assuming it would also remove them from my favorites on the KPA. But it didn't do that. I still have 212 favorites on my KPA, but none in the Rig Manager.

I assume I am doing something wrong but I can't figure out what it could be.

Maybe I should read the Rig Manager manual!

    Hello,

I am trying to manage my rigs with the Rig Manager but it's not working as I think it should.

I have too many rigs, and I'm trying to get it down to about 100. What I had done previously was add (via the KPA UI) the ones I wanted to keep to my Favorites, and then delete all the non favorites. But this still left me with too many rigs and it was tedious.

So I figured I'd see if I could manage them more easily from within the Rig Manager.

I wanted to start over and remove everything from my Favorites, then go through them one by one and add my absolute favorites back in, and delete what was left over. Again, I was aiming for 100 rigs total.

So I fired up the Rig Manager, sorted the list so all my favorites were at the top, and within Rig Manager I unchecked the 'favorite' box for each. Every time I did this the Rig Manager synched with the KPA and I thought that once I was done I would have no Favorites left on my KPA. In the Rig Manager, none of my rigs had stars next to them anymore...I had no more favorites!

But when I went to the KPA and looked at my Favorites, they were all still there, despite the fact the the RM and KPA seemed to sync every time I removed a favorite from within the RM.

In short, I want to be able to clean out my favorites, add 100 back in, and delete the rest. I could do it all on the KPA itself, but it would be too much work to remove all my Favorites one by one. Pressing and holding the RIG button 212 times to remove each rig from my Favorites, and then doing the same thing in reverse 100 times? No thanks!

    Anyone have any advice?

    Thanks!

    Cal

PS - I am using the latest version of RM, but my KPA is still on v.2.5

I'd love to see a "Repeat by holding" function, and the search knob wrapping to "a" after "z" (and the other way round).

I'm definitely missing whether there's any serious technical reason to not implement the above, specially the latter. With 1400 rigs installed it usually gets quite frustrating...
If I'm using a highly distorted amp and want to try one of the cleans I've to use knobs and/or buttons for 3 or 4 minutes... does this make any sense?

I would also love to see this....mostly for the reason that I don't want to wear out the buttons on my KPA!

Yes it would make navigation much easier as well, but I worry that so many button presses will eventually wear them out, and I love this amp so much I want to preserve it for as long as I can.

Well, there are certainly raw as well as mix ready profiles out there, and there's a demand for both, so you choose... ;)

I am new to all of this and I have only purchased a few profiles - a bunch of amps from Top Jimi and the Gilmour Hiwatt from TAF. I think they all sound fantastic but I haven't yet used them in a live situation.

I want to purchase some more and I think I want the more "raw" profiles so that I can choose how to use and shape them in any given situation. Is there some label I should be looking for if I want to make sure I get the "raw" profiles? Is there some language that the commercial profile vendors use to help us distinguish?

I'm only asking so that I know what to look for when the time comes to purchase.

Does anyone have experience with this unit and the KPA?

I have both a Musicomlab EFX MKII and a MKIII but I haven't tried them with the KPA yet. I have also searched online but there don't seem to be many people using these units with the KPA.

I will try them out someday but I'm still wrapping my brain around the KPA itself!

Of course I'm very keen to see the details of the official KPA foot controller (I will likely purchase one as I know it will keep headaches at a minimum), but in the meantime I'm curious if any of you have used the Musicomlab products and I'd love to hear about your experiences, good and bad!

    Thanks!

I purchased a couple of the TJ Bassmans, the Superlead, and the Vox AC30 and have been incredibly happy with them. They sound fantastic and feel great as well. Recommended.

They are the only commercial profiles I have purchased besides the David Gilmour Hiwatt from TAF which is also outstanding.

I would (and likely will) purchase from both again without question.

Well I can't tell you how they remove the cab portion of the profile but I will say this...

I'm a new Kemper owner, and I play through headphones at night, and a 410 cabinet during the day (with cabs off) and it sounds brilliant and inspiring through the 410 and each profile is different. I don't know how they managed to do it, but it's GREAT.

I tried it through a friends monitor (with cabs on) - a QSC K12 I believe it was called - and it also sounded brilliant, although I would need to dial it in a bit more as it was much brighter than I like. But I could tell with a little tweaking it would sound incredible.

So have no fear...you're going to LOVE the way it sounds through your 412, but if you want the full glory of the cab within the profile, you'll eventually want some kind of FRFR monitor. But I have to say, I think I could get by with just my 410 and be perfectly happy.

Yes, but on a pole. This way you will not be the only one getting the correct timbre.
Remember anyway to correctly set the DSP preset.

    Hmm...

This is where my old-fashioned ideas about guitar gear start to kick in. I'm not a fan of the "guitar speaker on a pole" idea...I guess I'm not in love with the way it looks.
But I think I can get over it if that's what is needed for it to sound right. Might be weird at first though.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I haven't decided which way I'm going with this yet...the KPA (which I absolutely LOVE) may end up being a recording amp only. We'll see....I don't even have the funds to buy any more gear to go with it at the moment and probably won't for quite some time. Those CLR's are expensive....especially the Neo which is what I want. And I want 2 of them!
