I'm going to be buying a KPA in the next month or two, is there any word of a release date for the foot controller? Seems very weird they're happy to let people continue to use third party products for this.

No. So if you do buy a Kemper, get an FCB-1010 and be happy. When/if the official arrives, you can weigh the alternative to see if it's worth the price premium to get it.
