That exactly happened to me at least three times. 
Always when trying to demonstrate KPA or rehearsing with new people. I believe it is a design matter, as almost any amp has the input jack at the left side.
Yesterday, I plugged into my guitar and there was no sound.
I spent five minutes adjusting settings before realising I hadn't plugged in to the front of the Kemper

"Maybe you could try the other input!?" Hilarious. Instant classic.
