Yeah, go for it!
Hmmm, today i don't get those peaks. Same rig, same guitar, same everything . Weird.
Think hard HELL-G, there has to be a difference and that difference might solve this issue for me too
A mains/grounding issue? different time in the day? Machines/devices/lights working in the house/building?
I just noticed that the soft shaper in position X didn't remove the spikes with any reasonable settings, but "compressor" set to 1.5 or so did tame the ugly transients with the "Bombed!" and "KM-THRASH" profiles (for instance) to a level where they didn't stab my ears anymore. They are still visible in the waveform, but there is no clipping. At least this is one obvious way to deal with it.
Still something mothership should have look at. I'll be investigating some more tomorrow.
Another sighting here.

Profile is a modified version of Pete Turley's old (free) Fortin Mod JVM, available here.
Trazan: Are you referring to the fact that all of the peaks point upward or what? If so, then what might be causing it?
Here is a close-up of the very last spike of the wav in the first post fwiw:

Yes. Hard to tell without zooming in more, but are the peaks actually just too short to swing to the other side?
Did you by any chance change or modify the cab?
I imported "KM-THRASH" from the firmware directly, didn't touch anything. Oh, and the cab section was not (accidentally) locked as far as I can tell if that is what you mean.
I tried to reproduce this with one of my own profiles by messing about with extreme settings on the clean and distortion sense, amp section definition, pick and compressor settings and the space parameter, none of which produced spikes like those. I'll try with the Merrow rig and report back.
Edit: I did an experiment with the KM-THRASH and all of the Lasse rigs and none of them produced spikes. Using the latest firmware.
Mine was on a Pete Turley profile, so it is most definitely not limited to a single profile.
Perhaps, like the pick parameter related crackling, some profiles are more prone to this than others - but it is something that has to be corrected in the profiler.
Nakedzen: what guitar and especially pickups did you use? Can you post a waveform example?
More examples would be great, since there might not be actual clipping if the output volume is down, but the unnatural transients might still be visible.
I already closed Reaper without saving, so sadly no. Pickups were EMG 81-7. But no transients were visible in the waveform. Track in DAW was peaking at around -20dB.
Here's a more thorough demonstration.
All clips captured with a BKP Rebel Yell bridge humbucker at a moderate height under the string - so lots of high-end and medium output - through S/Pdif at low volume (-16dB or so), then normalized in the DAW.
Most of the rigs are modified - the obvious modifications are listed beneath each graph. If it's not listed, it's at 0 (or 3.3 for tube shape).
Lothar's EVH_MESA_IB (one of them. Can't remember which):

Gain: 6.2; Direct mix: 0.8; Tube shape: 4.5; Middle: +1.5
Exhibits the phenomenon very clearly.
Lasse Lammert's 5153 (not Chain of Damnation. The other one):
[Blocked Image: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Ij8DG7DNhao/Upc1ji3CDcI/AAAAAAAACFw/FpxluiLVC1I/s1280/LL%25205153.jpg]
Gain: 5.8; Direct mix: 0.6; Power sagging: 2.0; Middle: +0.8
Again, very clearly.
Here comes the interesting part, though;
TAF 1987x cranked:
[Blocked Image: https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-5V0CcCjHxgQ/Upc1i7hPJFI/AAAAAAAACFc/82ZC_7mfvMw/s1280/1987x%2520cranked.jpg]
Gain: 4.5; Power Sagging: 4.2; Pick: +0.6; Compressor: 0.8
Absolutely nothing, despite power sagging being higher then before, and pick being above 0.
But it's not as high gain, so let's try another -
TAF 1987x Full:
[Blocked Image: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-NswuHfGWzlc/Upc1jAzA1kI/AAAAAAAACFk/Y9wJBBiePgQ/s1062/1987x%2520full.jpg]
Gain: 5.8; Power sagging: 5.8; Clarity: 7.5; Middle: +1.0
Nothing again.
So it's not the pickup, not the gain, not power sagging, pick or direct mix, compressor doesn't solve it at 0.8...
The next culprit i thought logical would be definition.
the 5153s had definition up to 10. The Marshalls are way, way lower (2.9, 3.6). Let's try something in between:
R.U.Sirius Bogner Shiva Heavy:
[Blocked Image: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-0zLmDVAgu8s/Upc1kI0EkXI/AAAAAAAACF0/7x6W3f-tScY/s1280/bogner%2520shiva.jpg]
Gain: 6.2; Power sagging: 4.8; Direct mix: 0.5
Perfectly fine. Definition is at 6.9.
Here's the same with definition at 10:
[Blocked Image: https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-qv7E22Zbvek/Upc6JuUWzzI/AAAAAAAACGI/0c6bWkgdNgY/s1280/shiva%2520def10.jpg]
Now, this i'm not sure about.
I do see a massive transient, but it's symmetric, contrary to the 5153 examples.
And here's the same with definition at 9:
[Blocked Image: https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-HmVJmApEr70/Upc6JgufKOI/AAAAAAAACGU/3S4DDcO4Fgg/s1280/shiva%2520def9.jpg]
Rather than making it better, it's now much worse and again, asymmetrical as before.
I'm aware of the potential inaccuracy with sample rates, but each rig got 4 attempts, and the waveforms were all identical.
Hope this is solved soon. Laardi, have you heard from DonPetersen?
OK, so I did a similar experiment, my own Mesa profile, Lasse Classic Thrash and Bombed!, all of them produce identical waveforms for me, whether the definition is at 10, 7, 5, or 0. Pickups EMG81-7.

Zoomed in they all look identical to the one displayed here. Click on the pic for full size, zoomed out it looks like there's peaks but those are just the metronome bar lines from Reaper.
I think your waveforms are too long, but i may be wrong.
Mine were created by playing muted strings:
---x---
---x---
---x---
---x---
---x---
---x---
I believe Laardi's were as well.
The problem (to me at least) is that when lightly touching the strings with the side of the pick (the first eight peaks in the wav), the output goes easily red and I hear a sound that is a bit unnatural and reminds me of actually clipping the output. This doesn't happen if I use similar pick attack while strumming chords (as in 0:03-0:11 in the mp3 clip). In 0:14 one can hear the problem again very clearly, I hope.
The spikes occur when the strings are just touched lightly with the picks side. I can reproduce this with a rig of my own, LL-ChugChug and KM-Thrash. It's not happening when hitting strings while strumming. I do not have spikes when starting a riff as described by Laardi.
Some great examples there, I appreciate your help! One thing that crossed my mind is that at least in my case many (if not all) of the profiles that exhibit spiking have a boost pedal as part of the profile (i.e., _not_ added as a Kemper stomp). Coincidence?
No word from DonPetersen yet.
