Potential Buyer - Direct out questions

  • Hello,

I am highly considering getting a Profiler based on all the positive reviews I have seen and read, plus it sounds awesome from all
    the clips.

My main reason for getting one though is so I could have a direct connection to a PC for recording only.
I would not be running it through a power amp or into an amp head (I already have a Marshall JVM if
I want something "real"). I am basically looking for quiet solution to avoid having to mic an amp.

Does anyone have any sound samples, links, You Tube clips, etc that specifically demonstrate the Kemper's sounds when being connected
direct to a DAW? I don't care how fancy the playing is, I just want to get an idea of how realistic it all sounds. My expectation is that it will be
great, but again, I have seen many a review/demo where they don't make it clear if the unit is direct into the DAW or into a power amp and I would like to hear something specifically identified as being "direct".

If it makes any difference, I am looking for clean Fender tones and Marshall/Mesa/5150 heavy tones, preferably with as little effects as possible so I can hear the raw tones.

    Thanks to anyone who responds.

  • Welcome to the forum. The vast majority of albums, clips and videos I see with the kemper are direct recorded to DAW.
It sure is the real deal and deliver what it claims. Here is a link to the clip/video section on the wikpa.org

    and some profiling tutorials here

A lot more clips can be found on this forum and the web.

Unless it was a bedroom type demo, where you'd clearly hear the bedroom, you can be 99% sure it was direct, unless stated otherwise 8)

  • Find Triviums new albúm on youtube.. they even quote that they recorded the whole album direct with no cabs ,,, and they use the Kemper live :) it doesn't get much better than that... this is my main reason for having a Kemper.. I needed quiet recording that sounded like a stack of amps and cabs.. :)

I also wanted great fender tones, which still amaze me to this day.. when I had my little super champ xd I still couldn't use it because the volume had to be on 1 and that was alost too loud.. but the kpa through my studio monitors and fender profiles sounds amazing and gets played a lot lot more..

  • Wow, thanks Everyone. I really appreciate you guys offering these clips. I have to admit it does sound pretty awesome.

For those who use the Fender sounds, does it also replicate the spring reverb and if so how accurate is it? Or if not, does the Kemper itself
replicate the spring reverb in its effects area? I was hoping to get some real good surfy tones out of it also.

  • As a surf reverb cork sniffer, for me nothing beats a real spring tube reverb tank in front of the amp (like Dick Dale and others).
I have tested a very large amount of pedals and digital reverbs/vst over the years but it's not the same as the original yet.
Although many of these alternatives will do a decent good job.
A spring vst effect for DAW that is very impressive is the Overloud springage. Details are important here and it has many options for spring boing, eq and gain for a raw sharp big surf reverb. Spring stomp pedals are all a compromise with pros and cons but in my A B comparisons with the real spring tank I recommend the Boss FRV-1 over the other pedals I've tested. It's not perfect but good.
Anyway, a spring reverb in the kemper would be great.
