Installing a sustainiac pickup without routing: possible?

  • I was interested in acquiring one of these pickups for a new guitar I had in mind. But I don't want to drill any holes or anything.

Wondering whether it's possible to install it without routing. I don't need the controls on top and I don't mind leaving the cover off my electronics cavity. Alternatively, I wouldn't mind mounting the PCB board to the electronics cavity cover if possible, perhaps cutting short the switches so they don't get in the way.

I was thinking since the trim controls are set and forget, I could position the PCB upside down so that the switches for on/off and harmonics are facing inside the cavity, rather than outside.

Anyone done something like this or have some advice or warnings on this kind of installation?

  • It is possible depending on the size of the existing routings.
    Take a look at http://www.sustainiac.com/install.htm.
My guitar (Hohner steinberger copy) required a lot of routing .
I found the drive control extremely useful to compensate when battery is low.
You'll definitely need a swich to turn it on/off (can be don with a push/pull pot)
