Hi Sean
performance mode is mainly for bands that play the same set every gig, but you can use it how you like. For example each performance is a song and each slot in that performance is a part of the song. So slot one might be intro, slot 2 might be verse 1, slot 3 chorus etc. I don't use it like this but I think this is how CK intended it to be used. The handy thing is what ever you do to profiles in performance mode it does not effect the profiles in browse mode. Hope this helps
Other uses would be to store different settings/gains/fx of the same amp in a performance, which would then be named after the amp. Or to store several clean (or crunch, or lead) rigs in the same performance. Or to set each performance per genre, in order to have different sounds ready and easily accessible when you jam/improvise.
One of the advantages of performance mode is that you can sequenctially switch between rigs by just using a simple pedal, regardless how your rigs are listed in browser mode, with no need for a MIDI pedalboard.
If you are going to change sounds with a MIDI controller, In Browse Mode, you have to manually assign the MIDI change number to each rig.
Performance Mode automatically assigns the MIDI program change number by the Slot - Bank 1, Slot 1 is MIDI 1.
Bank 1, Slot 5 is MIDI 5.
Bank2, Slot 1 is MIDI 6,
etc.
My take in this: if you use only a few rigs, browse mode is for you.
But if you use more rigs OR if you use specific FX setups suited for songs (like me, I do a whole show with just one rig but different FX settings for different songs) performance mode is the way to go.
And it doesn't have to be the same set Every night as you can sort the Performances VERY easily according to a (changing) setlist.
you can have 125 performances.
