I have a pair of DXR 10's as well and I don't remember having smelled odor like you said.
How exactly does it smell? Burnt?
I would put them through it's paces during the next week feeding audiomaterial to them constantly and see, hear, smell what happens. -

thanks, ya not really burnt just like weird electrical smell..? hard to describe. i sent a message to Yamaha support so i will see what they say and report back. im playing through them now, at low volume though and seems ok. I was pushing it last night though...but still didn't smell like roses ill tell you that !!.

Ok. Sorry my spell checker did something weird. Meant to write: feeding audiomaterial to the DXR's.
Corrected now. -
aww ok yes. will do

Even my toaster has a funny smell when I go near it. Smells just like it did when it was new. If it's that kind of smell, nothing to worry about, stuff gets hot sometimes. Could have even been on account of hot stage lights. If it seems more serious, I'd suggest checking with the company about it. especially if they're new.

I think mine did that once or twice when I first got it. It smelled like new electronic gear, getting warmed up from use.

HI,thanks for the replies..Yes something like that seems to have happened..i have been playign through it..not really loud but its been fine..Called Yamaha today and talked with a guy in the pro audio dept and he had not heard of it but he is going to have a tech call me back..ill keep you posted. thanks
-
Yes, please let me know what they say.
-
I'm interested as well.

Besides the tone delivery of the DXR10, Yamaha's 7 year warranty period really impressed me.
Hopefully, what you're experiencing is merely new product 'break-in"
-
OK, talked with Ed over at Yamaha, the tech..he really hadn't heard of it either, but says let watch it and see what happens.... He thinks it was just something getting hot and "breaking in" It was very loud at times and he thinks it might have clipped?! not sure.... One thing i forgot to mention, i was not running it straight out of my AxeFx. Not sure this setup would have mattered but i was just using it as a main pretty much, with the other speaker on the other side being a JBL Eon 15.. I sent two 1/4in to XLR to the board. Then back from the board was an XLR with a mix of vocals and my guitar. The guy running the board had myself, panned hard left into the DXR10, which i found out later... Dont know if the signal from the board was too hot or what?? so why i was running in stereo didn't really matter..it was LOUD for sure..guess ill just have to see how it does...yes the 7 year warranty is nice, and Yamaha is right up the road from me about an 1 1/2 hours..

Thanks for the follow up

Does it still smell?
-
No - I've not noticed it again. It seemed like a normal thing to happen with a new power amp at the time. It was not a strong smell. I would not have noticed it at all, if I had not bent down to disconnect the power cable.
-
well, doesnt smell now....ive been playing through them, buit just not high spl..everything seems ok, i guess...ill keep testing..Ya when i had this issue it wasn't like i reached down where you turn it off and i could smell it. I could smell it standing above it while in monitor position, the drummer could as well..He said "something smells like it is burning"..but it didn't smell like burning, ..like hot electronics..? .i dont know..well see.

Actually I was meaning to ask the OP, but nevermind.
