Yeah, I don't believe it's aliasing.
Would any of you guys have a spdif DI track from the kemper lying around, preferably with lot of held-out single notes on the higher strings...?
BTW, initializing flash did nothing either (as expected)

What do you want, my KPA is hooked up to my Apollo via both SPDIF and TRS.
Let me know and i'll give it a go.

Man, that's awesome of you! Thank you so much.
Could you record your playing each note of the high e string successively up from 1st fret to maybe the 15th, letting each note ring out for maybe two or three seconds? Maybe even each note twice. Then I could see if I get the same results.
If you could send me the SPDIF DI track as well as the SPDIF "stack" (or whatever), then it's easier to compare. Ideally, a profile we both have for comparison's sake, I think gain around 4.5-6 should do it. Probably all effects should be off as well.
If you suggest a couple of profiles, I can check if the problem is easy to hear. I have a bunch of TAF packs, some sweetspot profiles, all the factory profiles of course, mbrit pack 2, MWRokpack (man, I really need to stop buying profiles, what the hell??)... And the rig exchange of course...
I've given it a go, but did realise while doing this that I have a bit of fret buzz from having a very low action.
Have a listen and see if it's any good if not i'm happy to raise my action and do it again. I've also included the rigs that I used, the first '1962' is a standard Kemper factory, the second 'AI' is one of mine that I don't want sharing too much so let me know when you have downloaded so I can remove the share. I have also split the files into left and right for each pass in case that helps.
Shane
Very cool, Shane. Thank you so much. I've dowloaded it now so you can remove it. I'll try it a bit later when I have time.
Wow, something very strange is going on here... NONE of those tracks are the same lengths when I import into my daw...

Same deal in logic.
It looks like the L/R pairs are the same length as each other.

Yeah, they are. Sorry, I meant each pair are different from all the other pairs.
If they were played in "free time", there is no reason for them to be the same length
Wait, I see what is going on here....
Shane, you recorded each output seperately, not simultaneously, right? Sorry for the misunderstanding.... (d'oh)
haha yes played each one separately, can only fit one stereo pair down spdif
Thanks for everything, Shane.
Man, I'm at my wit's end with this...
I reamped on my unit and thought I heard the effect; but when I listen to your "stack" afterwards, I can't tell if there is any appreciable difference. It sounds like there is the same artifact. It kind of sounds like the decay of a floor tom in it's character.
Am I going mad here?
Here are both DI tracks reamped with the AI profile:
And here is your "stack" on the right, my reamped on the left:
I don't know what to think. I got to thinking maybe there was some as yet undetected fret buzz, but I get the same thing on the 24th fret too.
Maybe it IS stratits....??? Does anybody here know what that sounds like?
OK, new one here... Now I (again) took a DI through my interface and reamped that with the AI profile, from 1st to 24th fret:
There are some bad sounds in there every once in a while. Doesn't seem to be on all frets. Do you hear it?
I hear some swooshies in certain places in that last clip for sure. Also for the heavier distorted felton di towards the end. The rest of the felton is hard to tell - sounds more like beating against unmuted strings - only a few places in any of the clips where it sounded like aliasing but it might be something else
It's not aliasing At least not unless my Focusrite interface suffers from it as well
Shane - I'm wondering if you would do me one more favour?
Could you reamp a DI track of mine with the AI profile?
of course.
That's very good of you!
The DI can be found here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/92574366/NEW dDI through focusrite 2nd_ BM b%2301.wav
When reamping, could you do it like this:
- Via SPDIF, both sending the DI and returning the processed signal
- Constant latency engaged (page 5 under "master" button)
- Reamp sens set to -1.5 dB (under "input" button)
- And the track fader set to -4.5 dB
I know I'm being a pain in the arse - I just want to cut out as many variables as I can. I'd like to try a null test on my end as well.
In any case, can't thank you enough for your help!
