hey profilers. When you profile, what is your return level ?

One question,

I am facing troubles to profile these last days.

As you know, during profiling, the KPA automatically calculate the optimal return level.

I don't know what is happening, with my SM57 in the cone of my recto cab, with my IIC+ cranked up, I am between +9db/+12db !!!!

For instance, Thumas, who a very identical setup, is at -7db with the same settings in his Mark3... it was the same with DI profiling. We both used a Behringer DI100 (the red one), exactly setup the same way (-40db), and we found almost 20db difference !

What is you return level when you profile ?

Maybe I'm wrong, but I've always tweaked it to be as close to 0dB as I could get without distorting my monitoring setup.

Wow, that's crazy. I'm typically around -20 but I'm going through a Chandler TG2 and then to the KPA.

Different SM57 mics may have different sensitivities, especially if they are different ages, or one of them has been used a lot more than the other one.

Maybe that particular SM57 is getting worn out from all those Mesa profiles that have been made with it.

This doesn't come from the SM57 for me because I also had the same when I did DI profiles.

But I used the same cables... Could this be related ? It is a 6m XLR cable...

Do you set your return knob for a volume match? When you do that, you may be setting it lower than Thumas.

"Don’t worry too much about achieving a perfect volume match; during the profiling procedure the Return Level will be further fine-tuned automatically to match the unity level of the PROFILER."

I had a terrible time a while back and it was a bad cable. It was brand new but had a flaw in it somewhere.
