Playing stereo with two 1 speaker cabinet

  • I have a powerhead so it's not possible to play stereo because I only can connect one cable from my 4x12 stereo cab to this mono monitor output. But what if I still want to play with two 1 speaker cabinets and thus take benefit of the stereo possibilties on stage as well as through a PA? (and not hurt my back with my massive 4x12)

I have been thinking of getting me a second good stereo valve amp and connecting the two main outs of the Powerhead to two speaker inputs on this stereo valve amp and go from here to two main inputs on the PA-mixing console
    OR
getting me something like this: http://www.palmer-germany.com/…-Cabinet-Merger-PCABM.htmObviously a lot cheaper but I don't know if this option gives the same result!

I guess it's a bit overkill to have a Powerhead and still want to have a stereo poweramp but I hear a lot of complaints why Kemper didn't provide two speaker monitor outputs in the first place to take full advantage of the stereo capabilities of the Kemper.

    Anyone for comment?

  • You can use the XLR and 1/4" Main sockets at the same time. Of course you won't be able to exclude the cab profile from the signal going to your stereo cabs while keeping it for the signal going FOH and you won't be able to separately EQ the two signals. So if the cabs are not linear you may experience some unpleasant sounds from them.

As for Monitor out, the rationale behind the "mono" choice is that it is meant for using a traditional cab onstage the way you would with a traditional guitar amp.

  • Thanks for your answer. I'm sorry that I can't understand it....

I've read about the idea behind the choice for mono. But I 've heard so much better wide spreading sounds coming in stereo in demo's on live stage from specialists with such a setup and a PA-system Awesome sounds. But they used just the profiling amp with a stereo all valve amp and two mono cabinets and not the powered version that I have. So my wrong choice in means of versatility...?

  • If you are connected to a PA you can already go stereo: you won't need a power amp for achieving this, since the PA's cabs are amplified :)

What you can't do ATM is to feed the PA with a stereo signal with the cab profile on while monitoring yourself onstage with stereo cabs and cab profile off, regardless the power amp you use.
As for the Kemper power amp... I assume you knew what you were buying?

    :)

  • I only learned about Stereo monitoring a couple of weeks ago and its great !

    Monitor out - right signal

    Direct Out - Left signal

I use an Unpowered head with an Ambrosi insert.

Can you send your direct channel to combo maybe ? I have used a Roland Cube as the 2nd powered amp and it works well for me

The guy who demonstrated the Kemper used two 60W 1-speaker cabinets behind him: http://www.thomann.de/nl/koch_…L6jo4r1_swCFW8o0wodnboPCg
so he played stereo on stage. Left and right from him, there were 2 QSC K12 PA-speakers http://www.bax-shop.nl/actieve…-watt-actieve-luidspreker also stereo.
He used a Koch ATR-4502 amp https://www.google.nl/search?q…2&imgrc=5aSAo9_EEv2pPM%3A for his Kemper Profiler Rack

So my point was: can you only play stereo when you use an external power stereo amp in conjunction with a non powered Kemper? In other words: not possible with my Powerhead?

  • With your current configuration you can't go (true) stereo as long as you use passive cabs (you could use two passive cabs tho (this does imply going stereo)).
OTOH, with active cabs (or a PA) you can go stereo w\o even using your power amp and even if you're already feeding FOH with a stereo signal.
