[solved] Is it safe to unplug speaker cable when using headphones?

  • Hi,

I know with 'normal' amps that it's dangerous to use the amp without a speaker connected to it because you can blow up the poweramp due to impedance mismatch.
Does this also apply for the Kemper?

Sometimes I like to use a headphone, but connecting a headphone does not mute the other outputs so I need to disconnect the speaker cable.
Is that safe with the Kemper or could it harm the amp?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Page 35, Kemper Profiler Manual 5.1:

"There is no specific need to switch it off when not in use; unlike a tube power amp, the built-in class D amp is not in any danger when you have no speaker connected. Still, you maywant to switch it off to reduce energy consumption."

  • That only applies to tube amps. And while the Kemper sounds like a tube amp, there is no danger to disconnecting the speaker cable. Another option would be to turn the power amp off in the Output section when you're using headphones.
